That was EPIC, did the actors actually learn the guitar parts or did they just loop it over?

The guy who lost is Steve vai. In real life he is one best technical guitarist out there. I'm pretty sure he play both parts and Ralf machio faked it.

Vai wrote & played both parts, but coached Machio and he really played it... slowly (watch the film ... Machio's video is sped up).

The parts were BOTH overdubbed.

(They did the same thing with Michael J. Fox in BTTF - he learned the notes and fake-played.)

No vai did not write and play both parts , vai did not write Paganini's 5th caprice and it was RYe Cooder off screen playing Machios part.

Rage Against the Machine closing the first Matrix... a movie that holds up as long as you don't read Grant Morrison's "The Invisibles" and realize how the Wachowskis don't have an original thought in their collective heads.

The beginning of the scene was all Vai's writing (regarless of what you may find now on the internet). And he did write it. I know what the second part was, and no, Ry Cooder is NOT who you see or hear.

Um yes you do hear rye cooder , you are wrong. This is a common fact. You can not only find this on the internet, you can find this in several guitar magazines, and the movies credits !
