Have you ever been before?  What part of the island are you staying?

I haven't been Hawaii before. But my dad has, though not to Maui. I'll be staying Belvedere Beach Hotel and we have stuff planned all over the island. I tried looking up stuff on Google Maps but the resolution was crappy for the islands.

I lived on Oahu for several years, and visited Maui many times.  Back then (late 80's early 90's) it was a quiet place that rolled up the sidewalks at night.  Now I understand it's much livelier.

If you SCUBA, the giant manta ray night dives are NOT to be missed under any circumstances.  Also the sunrise tours of Haleakala crater is really cool, followed by a 40 mile downhill bicycle ride (coasting) that is scenic beyond belief.
