The Flame Wars and Explicit Games sections are both still open, is this intentional?

After the closing down of "Explicit" Beleth moved some posts to the "Flame Wars" section (this thread: http://skepchick.org/skepticsguide/index.php/topic,13816.0.html) so it might be the case that these sections are intentionally open still.

I just remembered that Mike is an admin... why can't he take over moderation?

Thanks! That was my mistake, fixed now . . .

I'm glad they removed the explicit forum. that place was gross and pointless.

This is the internet.  There will ALWAYS be significant "gross, pointless, and immature crap" content.  I thought the explicit section was a silly idea, but I've come to change my mind.  It keeps all the garbage in one place, so those who want to ignore it can easily do so.  I also think it would make day to day moderation easier and simpler, as there is less inappropriate crap in the other sections, and questionable posts can be moved to explicit without all the drama that locking or deleting threads always causes.

I would see 'explicit" as a free-fire zone that the mods never even have to visit unless a complaint is made; death threats, kiddie porn, etc; stuff that CAN'T be tolerated for legal and liability reasons.

Just my 2 cents worth.
The best debates are the ones in which I'm proven wrong.  Then I've learned something.

So it seems that, based on Rebecca's comments, Beleth's role has been reigned-in from that of thread police to that of safety patrol.

He won't be tasked with making decisions about argumentativeness or topic relevance, and won't be able to automatically ban people. Rather, he'll be on the lookout for threats of violence, child porn, people stepping into the school bus lane, etc., and be required to report back to the powers-that-be (namely, Rebecca) before taking any punitive action.

Is that about right? Because based on the flurry of nonsense I've seen over the past 48-hours, that makes a lot of sense to me.

I think all anyone was asking for was to have Rebecca or another panel member at least check in. I haven't had a problem with most of the bannings, but took exception to Kurt's in particular.

I'm happy to see that the much needed attention is ocurring, and will wait and see what develops.

I can see why some people were questioning Beleth, but now that ground rules are being set I am not going to object to Beleth remaining an admin (not that it would have mattered, obviously).

The last few weeks I haven't even bother to check in because of the overall mood of the forums, but I am confident we will get back to the old feel of these forums that so many of us have come to love.

It seems today that all you see is violence in movies and sex on TV. But, where are those good old fashion values on which we used to rely?

Removing Explicit was the correct decision. It made no sense to have an explicit section that was moderated but I would also like to point out that my favorite thread is in there and it should be moved to general or something if explicit never comes back. And that is OPCN's brilliant topic "How to get the girl"

Also what will exspiritual do now?  ha ha he was restricted to only posting in explicit lol

I'm glad Kurt is back <3
