I made a patch design for the recently formed ILS and thought I'd make one for my favourite podcast as well. Who knows, if you really like it, maybe you could get some made to hand out at TAM, or to sell maybe, to raise some funds.

You did? I must have missed it. :-[  Link?

That's really cool! Did you actually make the patch, or is it photoshopped? Either way it's impressive.

I don't really were stuff that goes well with patches, but I'd love to have some for some bags or something. Great idea!

Edit: nvm, I found it.

Double post next time, it didn't show up in unread threads!  :D

Is there any way to find out what the exact font in the logo is? Is it custom? Not to call "bullshit" or anything, but it really doesn't look anywhere close to any "Arial" I've ever seen/worked with. It's too "blocky" and Arial is a sans-serif font.

Yeah. I'm still up for the photoshop file being available again. But even then I suppose I'd need the font installed if it isnt rasterized.

its photoshopped, but i think they'd be pretty easy to get made. i did a quick search and you could get 500 for $1 each, in all embroidered. Or its cheaper if you just have them printed onto a patch. I reckon the SGU could sell 500 of them for $5 each, maybe even a bit more, $8 or $10.

Wow. that's nice!

Just a thought - could you increase the area taken up by the text?

ie. maybe just one word per line.

and how does it look without the large cap at the start of each word?

it's beautiful though. I bet they love it.

I tried playing with the text in different layout configurations and this seemed to work best within the space I had, even though it now looks a bit cluttered. I might go back and tweak the font/colors.

The original PSD is on the way... a word of warning, the text isn't text. It's a "vector smart object," so I had to do a lot of fiddling to get it to work.

ETA: Couldn't email it, it's a 65MB file.

here's something I thought might be fun:

I'm gonna try and make one that's easier to read, and will maybe work better in a banner or something. Let me know if you think the idea is worth pursuing.

I also thought it might be funny to do a spoof CAM advert, with an SGU product that boosts the immune system, providing immunity to hauntings, alien abduction, possession, um, what are the other things skeptics are immune to? (i thought about hell, but that deviates from the SGU a little)

any thoughts on this idea? that will take some actual design work, rather than just some photoshopping, so I wont bother if you aren't into it.

Heres a couple variations on the theme.

first with nothing but the name... I'll cut it to a banner etc, see how it looks.

second, with the actual crop circle of the solar system (but i erased pluto, because I'm ruthless)

using sizes from that google ads page...

a couple of Leaderboard images (flckr shrinks them which is annoying, but i can always email the actual files if you ever want any)

and a large rectangle

These are awesome.

"How much?" said Arthur.
"None at all."

Love the crop circles! One thing to keep in mind... I don't know if Jay is planning to use Google to distribute these ads, but if he does, they stick their own little "ads by google" bar down at the bottom of every ad. So design with that accounted for... just in case.
