Alright. Nobody liked the old game. Must have been too complex.
Spoiler
Along with the fact that I didn't actually participate...

So, new rules.

1. State your claimed effect of proposed occurrence/nonoccurence and provide a brief description of your logic.

2. Try not to post links or quotes unless absolutely necessary or asked for.

3. The previous week's winner will start the next week's game.

4. The person who begins the game may now participate.

5. Everyone sends a PM to the week's game-overseer titled "Historical Game" and place a single vote in the body of the PM. (You may not vote for yourself)

6. The person with the coolest one wins (by getting the most votes).

Game ends Saturday. New game begins Sunday.

Week 1.

What if Lincoln hadn't instated the draft?

Mexico would be richer than the USA and CSA

Anyone hear of the Zimmerman Telegram? Well, basically, Mexico receives it.
They accept the offer, and take control of half of the CSA, and possibly parts of the USA. They definitely get California, and almost certainly get Texas (which may have become its own country). The US never gets hold of Alaska, and never gets that gold rush, so there is money lost there too.
