Thanks to Louie (i'll just assume you know who that is)

We do know.  We try not to talk about him.

Hello to the forum!

I have been following SGU for a long, long time, and enjoy the podacasts. Never participated the discussions here, thought. But since I appreciate old style forums over FB et. al., I thought that I should register here.

I am from Finland. Already somewhat seasoned high tech professional, once dreamed to be a scientist. That did not happen, though I have always worked with technology close to my M.Sc. in theoretical physics.

Hi.

I've been listening to the podcast for a few years: it was one of the shows that got me into skepticism so I credit it with other things that have happened as a result, like meeting my wife when she gave a talk at my local Skeptics in the pub.

I'll be honest, I mostly joined the forum because I saw that you play Mafia, which has died out on the forum I used to play on

I don't even know what the Mafia threads are about, but they seem to be pretty active.

Welcome.

Thank you. I'm sure I'll have more pith once I get done twirling in a circle and mashing the grass down.

Hi. I'm Dane. My friend showed me this forum. It's the first online forum I've participated in.

As I pause to reflect on my 79 year climb up the Mountain of Life, it occurs to me that it is time to declare myself a Skeptic. From my earliest memories, my deeply religious family continually presented me with stories that had no logical basis. I was told to 'have faith' in those stories. As a young child, I decided that religion was a magic show but I was always in conflict about how those older than me didn't see the deception. I still struggle to understand how so many people at all levels of intelligence can continue to believe. I asked a close family member how she resolves continuing to believe with so much science indicating a different story. Her crushing reply to me, “I just don’t think about it.” That was the point that I decided to learn more about organized Skepticism.

My background is Southerner moved to the Midwest as a Transportation Design and Managing Engineer. I have started listening to the SGU podcast and find it refreshing. My Spirit is finally Home.
Once a pile of stardust, look at me now!

It's never too late! Welcome. My dad is now 73, and I got him to read A Demon Haunted World about 5 or 6 years ago. I think he's finally comfortable now calling himself an atheist. Same strong Midwestern, small town church BS in our family too.

Howdy,

I've been a listener for 8 or 9 years but have never checked out the forums before. Thought it might be fun to give it a try.

I'm a middle school science teacher, and this podcast let me know that there were others like me out there. I was always skeptical and questioning about things, but I'm too non-confrontational to get in actual arguments over much. My family is full of gullibles, but I do my best to point them toward more critical thinking.
