Miami bridge collapsed as cables were being tightened following 'stress test'

Renderings showed a tall, off-center tower with supporting cables attached to the walkway. When the bridge fell, the main tower had not yet been put in place, and it was unclear what builders were using as temporary supports.

Seems like a dumb way to build a bridge. 950 tons, you might want to put the supports up first.

Happy birthday, HighPockets!  :love:  I was always disappointed that my cake layers weren't as high as shown on the box, so I bought two boxes of Betty Cracker mix and made a three-layer cake.  Frosted in Betty's chocolate, with homemade buttercream (strawberry and peanut butter) between the layers.

It's a lotta cake.

Try Ctrl-Alt-down arrow.

We used to do that one to people who forgot to lock their screens as a prank.

Thought I might weld something for the first time ever. I've got access to some kind of welder, a mask, weldings rods, and a torn plate on an office chair. But it turns out the setup is for much bigger objects.

Next step, figure out how much it would cost to pay someone to weld the component.

I only noticed it was torn after I had fixed the problem of the chair dropping on its own, by manufacturing a tube similar to the one in this video;

.

The dropping was caused by the tear, which made it possible to trigger the mechanism by sitting down.

Cut my thumb trying to take off that fiddly bit on the bottom. Didn't cut it the first time, because then it went quite smoothly. So I was confident when I decided to take it off again. Probably just as well that I didn't try welding.

Some fella in a Facebook group just referred to himself as "an ordained non denominational Bible only minister."  What the billy blue blazes is THAT?  How do you get ordained outside of a formal denomination?  I suspect that he's using "ordained" simply to mean he "got the call."
