Red 2 4/10
I was a captive audience at a friends house whole my phone was charging.
Jesus Christ, this was a bad movie. All the performances were shit. None of the jokes land. Mary Louise Parkers character seems genuinely mentally ill to the point that I found her performance disturbing (she is supposed to be kooky and cute).
Bruce Willis needs to just retire. He clearly hates making movies and doesnt try anymore.

One thing so striking is the score from the original was anything but forgettable. I recall seeing it as a five year old in the High School, auditorium able to recall 4-5 tunes easily for days after.

The Sherman Brothers were an American treasure.  I wish they had done more.  I am so glad for what they did do.

Other Than Mary Poppins we have

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Bedknobs and Broomsticks
most of the Jungle Book
basically any Winnie the Pooh song that you may know - Including Tigger's Song.
The Aristocats
Many songs for Disney rides / exhibits.
I could go on.

I never saw Bedknobs and Broomsticks.

My wife and kids could not be bothered to watch Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. As a kid I loved that movie--I grew up with just broadcast television, so when that was on it was like an event.

They claim it is boring and goes on too long -it is sort of long, but only a few minutes longer than Mary Poppins. I think the story does drag a little, but I love the art direction and how the director and costume designer and set designers would work with color palettes. The scene/song/ piece in the candy factory specifically--all the colors are greys, yellows whites and blacks. Very sharp. They do similar things throughout. Also Dick Van Dyke doesn't do an "English" accent.

CCBB is also one of my favorite kids movies. I watched it recently with my Ex-wife who had never seen it, Truly Scrumptious seems to have a somewhat different meaning to me now >:D
It sort of blew my mind when I discovered The Benny Hill show on PBS, Oh look the toymaker *mom comes downstairs*. "what the hell are you watching!!!!!!" I received several spankings for getting caught watching it,  I guess all my adult perversions can be traced back to this film.

Bedknobs and Broomsticks was also a big time favorite of mine.  I loved it when humans interact with animation.

I had all of the Disney films on records and would sing those songs over and over. CCBB as well.

I agree that the new Mary Poppins songs are forgettable.

This one also has a bunch of fun old records. Star Trek, Batman and such.

Used to listen to these all the time as a kid.

Suburban Commando really?!/10
This movie was really big in 1991 and its funny to think of how Dwayne Johnsons career could have gone! I did really enjoy its silliness and 90sness though! Hulk Hogan as a space mercenary forced to take a 6 week vacation on earth really does work. And the star wars/masters of the universe/predator homages have actually aged very well and remind me that I actually got all those references as a 10 year old. What were my parents letting me watch?!

Sky High
Really fun 2005 superhero movie. Son of famous heroes goes to superhero highschool and starts with the side kicks but gets catapulted to popularity when he discovers his powers.
This movie was really fun and had a really good cast! My first time watching it and I was quite charmed.

That is very cool.  Thanks.

I had the Bedknobs and Broomsticks story record, but got a scratch and it skipped over the same line right after the soccer game.

Oh man... I haven't thought about that movie in ages!  Surprised to hear you say it holds up (even if only in a kitschy kind of way) as I assumed it would be a huge cringe-fest like some of his other works of the period.

"Sky High" starred Kurt Russell, IIRC.
