I actually prefer the style parodies to the song parodies.  Dog Eat Dog, Dare to be Stupid, Bob, Genius in France, etc.

With Dare to be Stupid, Al out-Devoed Devo.

I think Hardware Store is my all time favorite.

ETA: and the astrology song, I forget the title.

I think that is the first weird Al where he had his head computer generated/added to a chicks body.  It was creepy AND entertaining.

I can't sing the song "Lola" anymore.  I just can't do it.  Every time I try when it comes on the classic rock station (my van doesn't have a CD player that works)...I spell it "Y-O-D-A Yoda".

Of course, I'm old so I get all of Al's references.

Just recently my family is living in a camper with no TV and no internet.  We'll be back in our house in approx. 1.5 weeks.  Anyway, this last weekend my son had a couple of friends come over to help with construction/destruction of a barn on my property.  After they were done we started going through Al's polka's which I had on my laptop.  It was surprising how much differently they reacted to the "Angry White Boy Polka" or "Alternative Polka" than they did the earlier ones.  I guess you really do have to know the source of the polka to get the full effect.

That being said...I love a lot of Al's non-parody songs.  Recently, "Don't Download This Song" or earlier tracks like "One More Minute" are some of his best work and derivative of nothing.

Kill the grunge!  kill it!

It always bugged me that the drummer falls over at the end of that song. He should have spontaneously combusted.

That may be the biggest gripe I have with Weird Al's work.

That may be the biggest gripe I have with Weird Al's work.

Mine is this:

"My pancreas attracts every other pancreas in the universe with a force proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the distance between them"

Aaargh!  It's the distance squared!

He seems to like putting math errors in equations, like the one on the board in "White and Nerdy." It appears to have been a deliberate "error."

In short, Weird Al trolled you, and trolled you hard.

I never freeze-framed White and Nerdy - I know it's Shroedinger's wave equation (I was actually in a quantum mechanics class at the time), but I never noticed an error.

People who have freeze-framed it have noticed it's apparently not complete.

I love Weird Al - is it just me or is he even better now than in the 80s - but I have to admit that Lady Gaga is kind of awesome. She's probably the most genre-savvy pop star EVAR. I mean, even as stomach-churning as her stuff can get, throughout it all you're like "OMG that is sooo like what Madonna would do if Maddona was 30 years younger". She's the real-life equivalent of the bard from OOTS.

Ah. So Gaga let him do it. Good career move.

I want to point out, satire is protected speech and weird al is under no obligation to get permission to release any of his songs, he just does it to be courteous.
