RPGs: Tell me about yours
« on: December 08, 2014, 08:17:21 AM »
I got into Pathfinder when I was injured in the summer and Im flippin hooked!!
My brother and his friends are spread across the globe so they made an open table style game where you can come and go from game to game and it doesnt affect the plot. Its set in Ptolus and we are a delving company. We hang out in a virtual bar between games (email thread) for most of the character development and use maptool/google hangouts for playing. We also get extra xp for doing a write up of each game so you get tons of awesome fiction to read during the week.
I have 2 characters. My brother made the first one for me so he started as close to me as possible (Im into swords and archery) the second one was almost identical, a younger guy with different characteristics. As the game has developed they have both grown incredibly different and they storyline has me hooked!

So what are you playing?Fantasy?Sci fi? What do you like about it?
Please share your proudest and most badass anecdotes from your games!!

My God, what have you done.  This is the nerd equivalent of asking someone with an "Ask me about my Grandkids" about their Grandkids!   >:D

That said, I'll be back with stories when I get some spare time!

I thought he was asking about Rocket Propelled Grenades.  :D
The word 'politics' is derived from the word 'poly', meaning 'many', and the word 'ticks', meaning 'blood sucking parasites'.

Knowing your current employment, is there any wonder I thought of grenades?

I haven't played a proper paper and dice rpg in a long time. I started with AD&D back in 1980. I got a subscription to Dragon magazine and had it from issue 28 to probably issue 79 or so. (Damn mother threw out most of my dragon magazines!) Around about 1980 I believe they had just come out with the Dungeon Master's Guide to complete the three book set. I even had the Deities & Demigods with all the copyright defying pantheons. Loaned it out to a so called friend and never got that pure treasure back.

Rest easy.  It used to be a treasure, now it sells in mint for about the cover price.

Im not sure I would be into the pen and paper...I dont quite have the imagination.
Being able to hit a macro button to roll hits etc is pretty cool. I love the flexibility you have with a good GM. Ours was quite pissed the other night when we were probing the first part of a temple and a cornered cleric tunneled through a wall to a deeper, higher level part of the temple. On the other side was a pretty tough dragon that started crawling through to get to us.
I said we should collapse the tunnel and the alchemist threw a bomb to my guy who dived in,dodged the dragon and got out before the whole thing came down (some good rolls)
We then beat it to death while it was trapped (hey, it was evil) while raiding its horde however I managed to bypass all but a very nasty trap which trapped us up to the waist in stone. LUCKILY my guy had been on a delve some weeks previous and got a ring with a wish on it so we all got back safe.
Sounds like a story my niece would write but I cant brag to anyone else so....

I run a highly Homebrewed version of dnd 3.5, trying to create a mashup between classic fantasy and future storytelling.

Right now some mysterious force from the future has traveled into the classic medieval past and is coordinating with trolls, giving them power Armour and access to future tech etc
Now a once relatively harmless society of trolls have the power to take over the entire strand.

My players are now behind enemy lines, trying to find the exact source of the future tech.

So far:

-A Vortex Ripper. Kinda like an unstable stargate. The trolls used it to bring dinosaurs from the past to be used to assault a city, my players kinda defended it.
-Plasma Guns, laser cannons, gravity guns etc. the trolls are equipted with them
-As mentioned "chosen" trolls that appease the "gods" (future people) get blessed with power armour. It has all kinds of capabilities.
-A troll that was fully converted into a collany of nano-bots, he appeared like a troll normally, but had full capability to change color, shape, size, act like a swarm, act like a liquid/gas etc
-A troll that could move in 4 dimensions using a device (could sneak attack a PC from accross a room/dodge and attack by moving into the 4th dimension.

That sounds badass.
Our group recently found an underground cavern with what seems to be a sun and a sky. I seem to be the only one who is really really curious about that.
