Huffing compressed air?
« on: January 03, 2015, 04:22:22 PM »
I bought a package of cans of compressed air and had to do an age check.
I understand huffing paints or chemicals but compressed air?
Does it actually do anything and is it even really hazardous?

Is it really compressed air? A lot if things sold for blowing out keyboards and the like are actually other, more-compressible gasses—mainly flourocarbons.

Agreed, It's likely not just compressed air.  It's likely something with nitrous oxide.

The ones at work are spiked with bitterant specifically to prevent huffing.

Have to check the can when you get home but some are not "air"

I think most of them are actually propane, aren't they?

Propane and butane used to be common, but they pose fire hazards when used with electronics or in the presence of static electricity.  Most have switched to flourocarbons, as I understand it.

Just checked my can.  Doesn't say what it is, but it's liquid so definitely not plain air.

Says "no cfcs" but also it says "may be ignitable".

And it has "inhalant deterrent" of some sort.

I worked at 7-Eleven one summer in college and the RediWhip cans were always opened... I didn't even get it.

Flourocarbons are not the same thing as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs).  However, my understanding is that most if not all flourocarbons are not ignitable in air, so yours likely contains some other gas, probably propane or butane.

That's my second job.  Providing inhalant deterrent.  Industrial strength.  And I work for on beans!

Awful story.

I think these sorts of "drugs" are used by kids, not because they're addicted to a particular substance, but because they want to get some kind of high and that's what's available to them.

I wonder if officer Williams ever wonders how much Thor (not that it would have been the dog's fault) had to do with Kyle's death. I mean, maybe if the  kid could have scored a bag of weed...

Very sad.
