I, indeed, made the mistake of reading the wiki page on the Umbrella Academy. And, indeed, it quickly and easily spoiled Luther, Vanya, and RH. This is one wiki page you don't want to read before you complete the series.

Luther might be strong, but he's a shit fighter  ;) Plus Hazel is a big motherfucker.

Even Diego nearly beat Luther. Though the fighting choreography in that fight at the funeral was very poor. Luther was doing a lot of air swings.

I really enjoyed the show but this is a weak point now that you mention it. The entire purpose of the Umbrella Academy was to train them to hone their skills so they could save the world. What the hell kind of shit training did he receive funded by his billionaire adopted dad if he's a "poor" fighter? Even for a magical universe that's incredibly unrealistic. He should be an incredible fighter who has honed the use of his strength over his 20+ years of life.

tldr version.  I enjoyed the show but I agree with others who said it didn't live up to it's promise.  I really liked that it was more about solving a mystery and sci fi ish than just a bunch of superpowered fights and I thought the production was mostly really good but once you figure out the mystery a lot of the excitement is gone.  I also generally don't like time travel plots in TV series because time travel is such a godlike power.

Did anyone ever watch Pushing Daisies? I thought it had an interesting plot line. I liked it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pushing_Daisies

Quote
Pushing Daisies is an American fantasy mystery comedy-drama television series created by Bryan Fuller that aired on ABC from October 3, 2007, to June 13, 2009. The series stars Lee Pace as Ned, a pie-maker with the ability to bring dead things back to life with his touch, an ability that comes with stipulations. Together with his formerly deceased childhood crush Chuck (Anna Friel), private investigator Emerson Cod (Chi McBride) and co-worker Olive Snook (Kristin Chenoweth), Ned uses his abilities to solve murder cases.[

Agreed, I really liked it. Thought it a rare mix of creative new idea for a show that was really sweet and funny and smart. Good idea, well executed, great writing, great cast, fun set design. All the tongue twisting puns and dark adult fairly tale like story telling. Def on the best list.

I really enjoyed it and it was great, but I do think it used up it's premise and was cancelled at the right time.  That is a series that just works better as a limited run.
In my head...it was just Dead Like Me, also created by Fuller, but in reverse.

Is it just me or does it feel like the Magicians season has really fallen off a cliff after a great start.

What.  You didn't like "The Dragonriders of Porn"?  Anyways.  I feel you, but I never thought this was better than season 3.  And it's still good TV.  I can't ding it for not being as good as it was at its peak so far.

I think it's still a fine show, though I'm not sure I like the whole "magic shortage" plot device. It's a bit of a repeat.

I want to give a shoutout to Doom Patrol. I'm saw that it was a DC thing and tbh I went in a little skeptical, but I'm enjoying the weirdness of it for the first 5 episodes at least. It's a little like Umbrella Academy meets The Magicians.

Also I saw the pilot to Hanna yesterday, based on the movie. Obviously, it's only one episode in, but it was really well made.

I've only seen a few episodes, but I'm really liking "Love, Death + Robots" on Netflix

it is an anthology animated shorts series. A bit like an animated Black Mirror type show with it's dark humour and strange twists.

The animation on the few I've seen is top notch. "Three Robots" is my favourite episode so far (Episode 2)

They are all shorts between 6 and 17 mins and definitely not for children.

Edit: I now see Paul Blevin's made a whole thread about this. Great minds eh  ;)

We watched some Turn Up Charlie the other night. It was a lot of fun. That Idris Elba has a lot of range.

Some of the animation in Love, Death + Robots is amazing.
