Spoiler
The crack happened after the species split, I think.  They became two species because the urSek that took over the palace were misusing the crystal.  The crack occurred when the corrupted Skekis tried to remove their "impurities" using the crystal.

It is my understanding that the attempted purification caused both the division and the crack.  I think what may be confusing me is that, according to the article you linked, the Skeksis originally ruled benevolently even after the division before becoming more tyrannical as they came increasingly to fear death. So perhaps Augra knew of the division but did not think the Skeksis were evil? It's hard to understand that, seeing what we know of them.  I'd've loved to see even a single line implying that.

I just assume they were like the Republican party.  It was gradual enough that it wasn't immediately obvious when they crossed the line into evil and tyranny.

First episode of "Carnival Row" looks pretty good.

The Boys almost lost me in e01 with the casting couch. It took me three weeks or so to even think about fast forwarding past it to see the rest. I'm glad they handled it the way they did.

Overall it is among the best TV I have seen. Acting, writing, narrative... Damn.

I enjoyed Carnival Row. Maybe not in my top of all time list, but solid entertainment. Really liked the rest of The Dark Crystal. And just started The Boys... Is it just me or is Simon Pegg's voice utterly unrecognizable with an American accent? It's weird how different he sounds to me. Then again, it's not as if I recognized his voice when he played the Chamberlain in TDC.

EDIT: Castle Rock was interesting, too. Among the better King adaptations I've seen, though I don't know if it is faithful to the original as I haven't read it.

I watched the first episode of Carnival Row. I'm going to withhold judgment for now, but I found it plodding and heavy-handed.  Hopefully it improves.

I enjoyed Carnival Row.  It's generic action/adventure fantasy.  Reminded me a bit of some random NPCs questing around Baldur's Gate, if any of you ever played that one.

I thought the first episode was OK but I felt like it really hit its stride at about episode 4. The main plot line was only mildly interesting (until the second half of the season) but the side-plot lines were much more intriguing. It concluded very nicely and I'm excited to see where the show goes from here. They've opened the door to a much more interesting series of storylines.

That’s how I was hoping to hear it would go. I’ll keep watching and see.

I was waiting to hear from you all about Carnival Row before starting. The reviews I read were not kind.

I've finished episode 4, and it's improved somewhat. I think there's a great story in there, which I get glimpses of from time to time, but I'm not sure that it's quite being pulled off.

About three eps into the new season of GLOW. Season 3 opens with the challenge of kicking off a new season right in the middle of the Challenger disaster. A very interesting juxtaposition. This season seems to have amped up the boobs. I can only recall S1E1 having any kind of boob action.

"Unbelievable" on Netflix. Starring Toni Collette, Merritt Wever, Kaitlyn Dever

One of the best crime dramas in a while. We binge watched the first 5 of 8 episodes last night. We'll finish it tonight.

I was interested in seeing it because of Kaitlyn Dever ("Justified") and she was phenomenal. Merritt Wever too.

I'm not sure if it belongs on a list of the very best shows, but I just finished the first season of Fortitude (2015) right now and it's an interesting show. It starts out as a decent detective drama a la The Killing, but seems to (very, very) slowly be morphing into a full on infection horror. And they pulled a few game of thrones style plot twists along the way. The Arctic setting works well. My main problem was that the show introduces so many characters in such a short time that I found myself having to read back a detailed synopsis of a previous episode in order to understand what was going on a couple of times. No Dennis Quaid yet, which surprised me since he's on the poster, but I guess he'll enter the picture in season 2.

I loved Fortitude to bits, even if I did not like the second season all that much.

Thanks for reminding me this show exist, i didn't even know there was a third season out there
