Embedding videos?
« on: May 18, 2015, 05:46:10 AM »
It seems that linked videos are always embedded now, regardless of whether you include the "s" in "https" or whether it's under a URL tag or NOEMBED tag. This is pretty disruptive to the Forumvision game. Is there any way it could be fixed?

The old plugin ceased working with Google's new API, and was woefully out of date.

The newest plug in we have fixes a lot of stuff, but it was noted at the time of installation that there was no way to supress the embed.

We are looking at options to add a way to supress it (i.e. add back noembed manually) but do not have an ETA at this time.

Yea, sorry guys.  We had to make a change because youtube stopped accepting the connection from the old mod.  This new one fixed the problem but there's no real way to fix the 'noembed' yet.

We're still looking at it.

ETA:  Have you tried placing it inside a spoiler tag?

Spoiler tags would make it a little tricky for Forumvision, but what I'm really concerned about is that you can't make plain hyperlinks to youtube any more without auto-embedding, which means that the link text is lost.

Unfortunately, I don't know that there is much more we can do other than totally disable embedded video.

Well, I'd be okay with that. :D

Any chance of re-enabling the noembed tags?

That was a function of the broken mod.  I'm still looking around to see if there is such a thing that is still maintained regularly.

Came here to ask for this feature. Sort of, I'm talking more about embedding webm, gifv, etc.
I've seen other SMF forums that have implemented this feature, and as more and more sites are now saving GIFs as WEBMs or MP4s I think it's about time we implemented it too.
It's much easier on bandwidth as well!

Earlier today I pasted a video link, expecting it to auto-embed, but it didn't. Is this fixed now?

Your video did not auto-embed because you included a timestamp in the link for the video to jump to.  This does not seem to be supported in the mod we are currently running.

No I didn't. But I did paste it in while editing an already-existing post. That might affect the outcome.
