This is a pretty good season. It is more poignant, and slower this season. It is also more snarky. I like the
"what do we do with a pregnancy that comes from rape, only the baby is magic incarnate" storyline.
It continues to handle these themes pretty well.
It also has gotten more meta. It frequently breaks the fourth wall, only without breaking the fourth wall. The writers can get away with it, since all the characters know they are in a fantasy setting, so they can reference Buffy and GoT and how their current storyline has parallels, while all the otherworldly creature have no idea what they are on about. In this way the meta winks and nod to each other also serve as a pseudo-aside to the audience, but it allows the characters to remain in character.
In fact that "secret language" of meta textual tropes and pop-culture knowledge was a major plot point - and it was pretty damn glorious.
I like the way they thread that needle.
This last ep was pretty cool,
as it showed Q and Elliot in a long term homosexual marriage, and it made me a bit misty. Especially when I thought they lost it.
Not as good as season 2, better than season 1, still one of the best shows on TV.
