The Companion Cube: What is it exactly?
« on: May 14, 2016, 01:00:04 AM »
Ok, this is something I've been actually kinda wondering about for quite a long time now. Is this something that might actually hold some possibility, or is it all complete nonsense?

(Possible spoilers for Portal)

Video's 11 minutes. What's his theory?
... in war the screams are loud and harsh and in peace the wail is so drawn-out we tell ourselves we hear nothing.

Download a mod that allows me to save my companion cube?  But why?
I'm just the victim of my cognitive privilege

The companion cubes hold the bodies of the people before you.

Portal and Portal 2 are so good...

I always just thought the companion cube was a ridiculous invention by a clueless AI.

I am playing Portal 2 right now with my 10yo.  We are having a blast, but she takes perverse pleasure in pushing my bot into the soup.

One of my all time favorite gaming experiences was playing Portal 2 coop and getting paired up with a small child that was being "coached" my his parents.  It sounds like it would be very frustrating having to deal with some stranger's kid playing a difficult game, but I loved it.  I'd keep hearing in the background the dad saying stuff like "Look where your friend robot shot the portal.  Why do you think he shot it there?  Maybe he wants you to place a portal somewhere in this room."

And in general playing coop with someone who is roughly at your skill level was just a blast.
