Hello forumites!

The Skeptics' Guide forums have grown in popularity in a very nice way. At the moment, we have 413 members, most of whom are sane and rational folks.

Of course, as we continue to grow, we're seeing a more and more diverse group of people signing up, including spammers. In order to keep the level of discussion here thought-provoking and on-topic, we'd like to recruit one or more moderators who can help us out. Responsibilities would include checking on new registrants to ensure they're not spammers, gently reminding posters to keep discussions on-topic and at least a little polite, and handling any small problems people may have with registrations or posting.

Use this thread or PM me your nominations, whether they be self-nominations or recommendations of others you think would handle the job well.

Thanks!

Rebecca

Congrats!  I would've nominated him if I had thought about it.

As for the "sane and rational"... Rebecca... Happy Birthday, but... I sometimes resemble but often regret that broad characterization.

It insults my beliefs.  It's not that I want to be a skeptic.  I want to believe... I just don't have the insanity and irrationality that I need.

Hehe, kidding... Happy birthday anyway.  Don't each too much cake, you never know where they're putting all that extra spinach now.

Sorry if this doesn't belong here, but I need help.  I haven't been able to post messages that either go longer than 2 paragraphs (the size of the window you type your message into) or have a section of text pasted from an outside source.  When I hit preview or submit, it just times out.  If I shorten the very same message or delete the pasted part, it posts in seconds.  Is anyone else having this problem or can anyone give me advice?

I've just tried posting a very long post and which was pasted from an external source. It worked perfectly, so we can rule out problems in the forum itself, or at least it doesn't happen to everyone.

A pair of questions: What browser do you use, and have you encountered the same problem using a different one? It might be worth a try.

Thanks Gilnei,

I use Mozilla and have never had a problem.  But I will try IE just in case next time.

I've had the same kinds of problems using Firefox (my usual browser). When I use IE, I don't seem to have any problems at all.

sheila, did you change any settings or add any mozilla plugins?  I'm not sure if this site requires java script to be turned on or not.
