Stop after the first one

What are some movie series or tv series where you should only watch the first film or first season, and then pretend like the others never happened?  It seems like there are quite a few of these.

I've heard True Detective goes on this list.
My possibly controversial candidate would be the rebooted Battlestar Galactica

Highlander, Jaws and The Matrix.

Definitely both.

True Detectives was brilliant in season 1 and total shit for season 2.

BSG did have a good 2nd season. It fell to bits after that. The mistake it made was making the enemy too empathetic. They worked best when they were evil incarnate. The less said about the last season, and that abysmal finale, the better

Oh good lord. I forgot about the Highlander movies. That may be the most dramatic fall-off of all time

Homeland.  An America POW returns home with secret plans to suicide bomb the president.  It's a really tight, really great drama right up until he doesn't do it and then it's just a mess.  I didn't finish season 2.  Brody should've blown himself up.
... in war the screams are loud and harsh and in peace the wail is so drawn-out we tell ourselves we hear nothing.

does for me.

seemed like purely 'this was successful, quick, do something else under this title' business decision-making.

ah. I'd also have to say that you have to sit through season 2 of The Wire, because 3 and 4 are still good, not just 1. it's just a shame 2 takes such an unexpected turn.

just came here to post highlander, but got beat.

A Nightmare on Elm Street.  The first one is legitimately clever and interesting, with a real story and characters.  The rest is garbage except for the New Nightmare.

Highlander wins for sure with the matrix a close second.

I'll add the Crow, Heroes and pretty much every horror film series

BSG should be on a list of stop watching before the final season/episode with Lost.
