More Navy bitching.
(click to show/hide)
But I digress...

Yeah, I've got to figure anyone who actually read the tracts would be more likely revolted by the contents than inclined to call up the local church of hate.

Navy stuff.

Chick tracts were the first time I really remember having my bullshit detector go off.  Dark Dungeons was awesome for me because the first time I read it, I was a churchgoer but I also played D&D with a group of about 10 kids at the Public Library every weekend.  It had not yet occurred to me at approx. 12 years old that the church would openly lie, and I recognized Dark Dungeons as an obvious lie.  I probably owe Jack Chick a bit of my atheism and skepticism.  Thanks Jack!
Well.  There it is.

The comic should be, just not the movie
I checked their website and noticed it was gone. . . .Could also try the wayback machine.

Active duty YNC here.

OK YOU start the sea stories thread then.

I don't think we had YNs on my sub... but I didn't know my way around the pointy end very well so maybe there were some in there mixed in with the torpedoes or sonar thingies.

I was the YN of my boot camp company though.

Amend and resubmit.

Engineering rocks. I'm a retired MMC.

You should start a sea stories thread, chief.

By "engineering" do you mean A-gang?
Welp, sonny, I started out as an EN. Then when the war wound down and the Navy didn't need so many ENs they gave me $20,000 to become a Machinist Mate. Most of that was as a pit-snipe, but I did LOX/LN2 and fresh air time, just to round me out.

The film looks awesome, something I can't quite tell from the wiki article, did the makers intend it as satire, if so, how did they get chick to give them the rights?

I swear someone on SGU Forums posted about two weeks ago about Dark Dungeons, saying that it was a movie some skeptics made as a satire off of some printed material, but they actually didn't have to change anything because the content spoke for itself.

Did Chick hate Mormons too? This would explain the pamphlets on my door step a few years ago here in LA. The family that lived behind me is Mormon and they often hosted young men on missions who could be seen coming and going from our property in their ties...

Yeah I don't have a link, but I saw a twitter back and forth between a Catholic and a Mormon discussing who got it worst.  Apparently some of the tracts had a different/better artist doing the artwork (all Chick text though).

Keep in mind, Chick hated everyone who didn't believe what he believed.  Not just Catholics, Atheists, and Mormons.  Any deviation from his orthodoxy was a plot by satan.  There's one of the tracts that claims Islam was a Catholic plot to?.....lead the  Eastern Orthodox astray?  Pretty sure he hated the orthodox too.

If anyone wants to risk getting lost down the rabbit hole of Chick weirdness, here's the The Jack T. Chick Museum  http://www.monsterwax.com/Tracts.html

I have to confess that this site is a guilty pleasure of mine:  Chick tracts are such a great combination of poor story-telling, bad drawing, insane conspiracy theories and biblical literalism, -they are almost addicting.

It's a shame Chick wasn't born around the 1600's he might have been happier.
