Online First Contact Hard SF Game Possibilities
« on: January 14, 2017, 12:09:21 AM »
Hi, kids.

Is anyone interested in playing in a first-contact scenario in a near future Earth, using an as yet-to-be-determined game system? The desire to GM again is strong in my blood. Games would be hard-stop 90 minute sessions once a week, on days not called Monday, Friday, or Saturday, time TBD by players.

Game systems with pick-your-points tend to be my preference. I'm open to suggestions. My default is something from the Heroes or Champions pantheon (because I'm both old and old school) but suggestions are welcome. There are no limits in terms of character classes, skills, etc. I quite like to have players play some version of their own real self - not a fantastical wizard gremlin or whatever. You could be a primary school teacher in Iowa, or a chemist in Syria or a bureaucrat in Bangalore. The adventure can still sweep you up. :)

Anyone interested?

OK, we might need a new thread where you break down the options for your time.

.
| Mon | Tue | Wed | Thu | Fri | Sat | Sun
Normal People | ? Time | ? Time | Free Time | Free Time | ? Time | ? Time | ? Time
Abnormal People | ? Time | ? Time | Free Time | Free Time | ? Time | ? Time | ? Time

Also, it would be cool and fun to play with you regardless of which category/day I fit into.

You made me smile and huff in a manner consistent with laughter out loud, so I'm calling this a LOL because SAHIAMCWLOL is a bit cumbersome.

ETA - and sorry I missed the Sunday morning slot. Tables are just a pain to edit on this site. :)

OK. It looks like Fate Accellerated Edition is the ruleset I'll be using. I have a few friends from around the continent who are interested in playing, starting in late February or early March.

I prefer Wed or Thu evenings myself.

I've worked out the broad strokes for the first few sessions for character development (1-on-1 with me) and party/character development (as a group, where everyone develops an aspect with at least one other character).

The aliens the PCs will encounter are the Tetras. This very rough sketch leaves out a lot, but it's a start. When you think about your character it should be in terms of a regular day to day life - could be a very exciting life! - that does not include aliens showing up.

This is a bad sketch of some interesting bits about Tetra gross anatomy.

Do you facebook? There is a useful discussion about async options for gameplay.

The live weekly game is not the only part of this universe you and muck about in.

FYI I have the Slack team operating now, and the nature of the game play looks like it will be interesting - a mix of live and text-based interactions.

The guide and form for "Building Character in the Discovered Universe" is:

It's starting to look like an interesting place.
