Looking for a good miscellaneous facts podcast
« on: February 05, 2017, 07:06:36 AM »
Anybody know of one?

I've got plenty of skeptical podcasts to listen to, but they all tend to deal specifically with skeptical issues. That's fine, but I'd like to hear about other things too, still with a skeptical scientific viewpoint.

Yeah, SYSK has been pretty rough lately, but it is usually one of my favlrites. There's also a whole "stuff" series. Stuff You Missed in Histry Class, Brain Stuff, etc..

BBC Radio 4 has several informative radio shows (which they post as podcasts)
My two favorites are Science in Action and In Our Time.

Grammer Girl is fun.
I am in favor of killing all whales on principle. Where is my avalanche of 'provocateur' money?

Second No Such Thing As A Fish. If you like QI, this is the writers of that show.

Startalk with Neil DeGrasse Tyson and the associated (but now separate) podcast Startalk Allstars with selected people involved in science as the hosts

Infinite Monkey Cage with Brian Cox

Australian Dr. Karl Kruszelnicki does a few science Q&A podcasts Dr Karl on Triple J & 5 Live Science. Both radio shows (One Aus, one British) available as podcasts.
He has a few that are now defunct but still available as podcasts. Sleek Geeks is good.

If you like history then Rex Factor is a good podcast about British monarchs.

Again, second the Infinite Monkey Cage. Only problem is that they do a six-week season once every six months or so. It's like, nothing nothing nothing nothing nothing SHOWSHOWSHOWSHOW nothing nothing nothing...

And I have to say I had a problem with the rapid-fire nature of Dr Karl's show. The man is brilliant, and his presentation at TAMOz left me breathless, but I kept finding he skimmed right over the top of things on his show. It was very unsatisfying to me. YMMV.
