I'll be in Sacramento.

I thought of my sign:

:patriot:
PATRIOTIC VETERAN
AGAINST THE WAR
ON SCIENCE
 :patriot:

There is a possibility I might be there.  I might be in Davis for their picnic parade though.  We're still making plans.

Looks like we will be going to the one in Sacramento.  That's the current plan.

I'm working that day wish I could go. Maybe I'll talk my brother into going.

How is Pepsi related to science or anti-science?  Did I miss something?

Apparently they did an ad that has caused a lot of backlash:

Quote
In the clip Kendall joins a crowd of young people protesting while a line of police watch them.

Whipping off her blonde wig – presumably to appear more ‘down to earth’ – the 21-year-old breezes through the protesters brandishing a can of Pepsi.

She then casually hands it to one of the policemen and ends oppression and injustice everywhere forever.

Any SGU fans who want to have a frosty beverage after the DC March. Me and a pal are headed to RFD in Chinatown.
Well.  There it is.

Looks like excellent turnout.  I'm looking forward to the totals!

The march I attended was in a small city and it probably had 1,000 people.

I haven't heard numbers on Sacramento, but I'd guess about 20,000.  Fun march, great atmosphere, not much to do afterwards, the speakers were boring and hard to hear.

My sign got a few favorable comments.

Cops had an easy day of it.

Here, it was windy and raining so they cut the speaking period short, but not before they had a NASA engineer exhorting us to activism and an astronaut talking up scientific accomplishment.  Those two were very effective speakers.  All in all, I'm pretty happy I attended.  It was very heartening to see a crowd large enough to almost fill the route, knowing everyone was there to show support for science.

So far, I'm reading that New York pulled 20k, Philadelphia pulled 20k and Chicago pulled 40k.  There were over 600 marches in the US and more in major cities around the world.  What a lovely day!

My favorite chant in the DC march:

What do we want?

EVIDENCE BASED MEDICINE

When do we want it??

AFTER PEER REVIEW!!

I wasn't able to make it into the rally because the lines stretched for two blocks...and a block on the national mall is YUGE!

I didn't see too much political signage. There were a few but most were clever, funny science based ones. Lots of tourists taking our pictures. The weather was...moist. Bigly. But it didn't moisten the spirit of the ppl.

I did stop by the Museum of Natural history and devolved into a Neanderthal with one of their interactive exhibits.

I spoke with many wonderful, passionate, interesting  people today at the DC March. They made the hours of standing in the cold rain absolutely worth it! (If the microcomputing researcher from NY who shared his umbrella with me reads this, many thanks, both for the shelter and conversation!) I was surprised and happy to see Cara Santamaria out interviewing folks. Here she is w/Thomas Dolby in her totally awesome golden ratio dress.

I planned to attend the one in Richmond, VA. It turned out that it was organized by folks with a "decolonize science" agenda,  blocked traffic without a permit, etc. etc. They didn't publicize their agenda until Friday, so many scientists and science-supporters showed up to a very different scene than in DC. I decided not to go, and some scientists I know went but left, disappointed, before the "march" after being told they were the "problem."
