Mine be "The Crimson Pirate" with Burt Lancaster

"Yellowbeard" is a close second

Cutthroat Island.  It's a horror flick where you watch people's careers get butchered.

The obvious one.

Looking at that page, I have to laugh at the synopsis:

Quote
The crew of a large ship sail the high seas encountering other pirates from other ships. The boy from the ship ends up having to save his girlfriend who is kidnapped by a bunch of other pirates.

There was one old movie where the pirate captain actually says "Arrrgh" and it doesn't seem silly or ridiculous or affected. I think it might have been Blackbeard.

I did also like the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie. The franchise went downhill after the first one. Jack Sparrow is definitely my favorite movie pirate captain.

For some reason, that movie never took off in the US

My fave is for sure: The 7th Voyage of Sinbad.  Is that a pirate movie?  I am saying that it is.

I have fond memories of "Yellowbeard", but I last saw it some 25/30-ish years ago, so it might not be so good now.

More recently I fell in love with "The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists!" :)

Shame, because it is really excellent.

I'm a big fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy.
The first is the best by far.
But of all pirate movies my favorite is Treasure Island, the Charlton Heston adaptation.
Also dig Muppet Treasure Island and Treasure Planet.

I'll go for a childhood favourite.

Treasure Island. The 1950 Disney version.

Captain Blood, 1935 with Errol Flynn in his breakout role.  None better, imo.

Another top notch flick. Errol Flynn was the bomb in pirate movies.

and a good Tasmanian lad as well  ;) Arguably our most famous.

His leading lady from that film is still alive too. Olivia De Havilland is a sprightly 100 year old.

Also dig Muppet Treasure Island and Treasure Planet.

These were the only knowledge I had of the story until I actually read it about ten years ago. I really wished I'd read it about thirty years ago.
