She was the first and only woman to win the Fields Medal.

This is stunning and tragic. Dr. Mirzakhani was one of the most brilliant minds of her generation. She is gone far too soon.

Sadly, there are cancers that strike women, especially, in the prime.

This one sucks hard.  She will be missed.
I disavow anyone in the movement involved in any illegal, unethical, sexist, or racist behavior. However, I don't have the energy or time to investigate each person and case, and a lack of individual disavowals for each incident should not be construed as condoning such behavior.

Glen Campbell, dead at 81

That's a tough one.  My parents took me to several Glenn Campbell concerts when I was young.  I always loved his work.

Campbell had a great career before his public career. He was part of the "Wrecking Crew" studio musicians in LA and played guitar on Beach Boys records, before briefly replacing Brian Wilson in the touring Beach Boys when Brian was "under the weather."

The 2014 documentary "It'll Be Me" is tough to watch but good. Campbell is on his last tour while struggling with Alzheimers. It is a frank documentary, including showing that his randy desires for his wife continued with little mental brake on his behavior.

My sister, before succumbing to early Alzheimers, also exhibited behaviors that she would never have allowed to be public earlier. We are fragile creatures, and with Alzheimers, our dignity is one of the first things to go.
