Basically, they consume everything which looks like useful raw materials (e.g. our spaceships) in an effort to replicate further.

It would be neat to send a nuclear-powered probe with a solar-powered lander out into space with a trajectory that will cause it to return and land on Earth in 100,000 years.  We put a ton of information in it starting with videos meant to teach our language, followed by instructions on how to maintain the lander.  That way, they can figure out all the rest of the information in the lander at their leisure.  Sure, it would be a huge engineering challenge, but it would be fun as hell.

They have space ships in SG? I thought they just went everywhere through those magical teleportation hoops. But thanks for the concise summary.

Isn't Wikipedia pretty close to that? Or at least aspiring to?

It's in the second half of the series that they start having their own spaceships.

I would start with the complete works of 1600's medical knowledge.
common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Everyone knows the Encyclopedia Galactica will be written on Terminus.

Not really. A free crowd-sourced encyclopedia is a wonderful thing and a very useful resource. But it's far from authoritative or exhaustive.

It's not worse than other encyclopedias. And it has ambitions:
