#Bitcoin uses 77% renewable power, with most mining situated close to hydro plants where there is excess energy that would otherwise be wasted

Because it's such a struggle to find uses for hydro power?

All extra renewable energy used is energy that can't be used to displace fossil fuel energy. There's no environmentalism in cryptomining, they just go where electricity is cheap, so that they can use as much of it as possible. IMO, electricity should be priced progressively, higher price per kWh the more you use over a standard amount.
Hydro solar and wind are used to fill in when fossil fuels can’t handle the loads.

They should do the opposite. Use alternative sources as the foundation and top off with fossil fuels.

No. You have it wrong, but I am sure you will engage in an extended argument that misses the point and moves the goalposts.

Just know this is a completely wrong statement, and makes no fucking sense if you think about when wind and solar is available.  They are in no way an on demand power source.  Hydro is only partially that, and only for a limited time, and is always much better used as a baseline rather than draining the resvoir to meat a peak demand.

Got a citation for this statement?

Even if it were true, it's irrelevant where the power for bitcoin mining comes from. The Bitcoin system is still an enormous waste of energy, diverted from productive ends toward idle gambling, and illegal, untaxed, and/or frivolous monetary transactions.

I just figure they spent too much time in Cazic-Thule.
