If global warming is real then how come I just felt this chill down my spine?

Hah. I had to sit through a presentation about blockchain at work. I started nodding off like I was back in highschool. I snuck out.

If you want to see the rage of an almighty god incarnate, watch what happens when a student tells an accounting professor that blockchain is going to replace auditors.

Having been trained in auditing and statistics, I tend to get irritated when I see lots of societal problems that would benefit from basic statistical auditing and we either won't do it or peoples' understanding of statistics is so bad that they won't believe the results. Examples are "the voter fraud problem" (far overblown) and healthcare/insurance/Medicaid fraud. If I were a younger man, I would go into "Big Data" auditing. The opportunities are huge.

My favorite story of audit disbelief is the Bernie Madoff fraud. A stock analyst with an auditing background proved Madoff was a fraud years before it was uncovered using a simple technique based on Benford's Law (one of my favorites) but the lawyers in the SEC didn't understand the math and wouldn't believe him.

Even on this board the innumeracy is kinda staggering.  But the political benefits from promoting innumeracy are far too great.

That little script is impressive!
evidence trumps experience | performance over perfection | responsibility – authority = scapegoat | emotions motivate; data doesn't

I have a gen1 leap on my desk. I used to use it a lot on my Mac, but mouse gestures are more efficient in Windows, and the accurracy and lag are too much for serious use as a tool for creation or even most navigation. The ability to sense relative depth and obscure the moving virtual construct behind the moving opaque object is very impressive.
