I really disliked hair metal in the late 80s.  I still enjoyed some hair metal concerts (Dr. Feelgood tour etc.), I really didn't like the label and some of the bands (Winger, Nelson) they tried to pass off as hair metal were not even bordering on metal.  I never really understood Cinderella being grouped in there considering their sound.

Today I have a weak spot for some of it though.  Nostalgia being what it is, Faster Pussycat and the like still find their way into playlists.

This all doesn't invalidate the song's inclusion in this thread, of course, but it is a historical perspective that a lot of people today are missing.

Actually an explanation for why the song is perfect for this thread.  In its time, it had kind of the opposite meaning it has today.

The various rock songs about dudes having sex with underage girls were creepy even in their time so really don't belong here.

The title of the thread is "Old songs that now sound sexually creepy". There's nothing in it about whether the songs sounded creepy when they were released, only that they now sound creepy. :)

Werewolves of London

"Little old lady got mutilated late last night, Werewolves of London again"
--Warren Zevon

Excitable Boy

"Well he took little Susie to the junior prom,
Excitable boy they all said
Then he raped her and killed her and he took her home,
Well he just an excitable boy

After ten long years they let him out of the home,
Excitable boy they all said
Then he dug up her grave and built a cage with her bones
Well he just an excitable boy
--Warren Zevon

Poor Poor Pitiful Me

"Well, I met a girl at the Rainbow bar
She asked me if I'd beat her
She took me back to the Hyatt House
I don't want to talk about it"
--Warren Zevon

Searching for  Heart

"They say love conquers all
You can't start it like a car
You can't stop it with a gun"
--Warren Zevon

A Bullet for Ramona

"Today I shot Ramona
She ain't gonna cheat on me
For two years I've been searching for her
For two years she's been free"

Excitable Boy is a great song, and yes, creepy.

People mentioned Sting but never mentioned Don't Stand So Close to Me, which is also supposed to be creepy. It's about a student obsessed with her teacher.

PYT by Michael Jackson.
He never mentions how young but, y'know.

From Spinal Tap:

You’re sweet, but you’re just four feet
And you still got your baby teeth
You’re too young, and I’m too well hung
But tonight I’m gonna rock ya.

I’m even aware of most of that. I love old movies, watch several a week and see this kind of interaction in quite a lot of them. It doesn’t really make it any better listening to it now and it especially doesn’t work today being covered. It’s also likely how it would have gone if she felt trapped there, wanted to get away but was being pressured and was too scared to be direct. That happened then and happens now.

It’s super creepy now in part because any old meaning is lost. We need women, and men, to able to be direct, not coy, about what they want when it comes to sex. It’s just not cute anymore.

Tonight's the Night by Rod Stewart has probably always been creepy.  ;)

It hasn't got any less so, in the last few decades.

Quote
Stay away from my window
Stay away from my back door too
Disconnect the telephone line
Relax baby and draw that blind

Kick off your shoes and sit right down
Loosen off that pretty French gown
Let me pour you a good long drink
Ooh baby don't you hesitate cause

Tonight's the night
It's gonna be alright
'Cause I love you girl
Ain't nobody gonna stop us now

Come on angel my hearts on fire
Don't deny your man's desire
You'd be a fool to stop this tide
Spread your wings and let me come inside

Tonight's the night
It's gonna be alright
'Cause I love you girl
Ain't nobody gonna stop us now

Don't say a word my virgin child
Just let your inhibitions run wild
The secret is about to unfold
Upstairs before the night's too old

Tonight's the night
It's gonna be alright
'Cause I love you woman
Ain't nobody gonna stop us now

Is 2008 "old" yet? Death Cab For Cutie's "I Will Possess your Heart" is a pretty solid Nice Guy Anthem.

Quote
How I wish you could see the potential
The potential of you and me
It's like a book elegantly bound
But in a language that you can't read just yet

You gotta spend some time, love
You gotta spend some time with me
And I know that you'll find love
I will possess your heart
...
There are days when outside your window
I see my reflection as I slowly pass
And I long for this mirrored perspective
When we'll be lovers, lovers at last

You gotta spend some time, love
You gotta spend some time with me
And I know that you'll find love
I will possess your heart
...
I will possess your heart
I will possess your heart

You reject my advances and desperate pleas
I won't let you let me down so easily
So easily

You gotta spend some time, love
You gotta spend some time with me
And I know that you'll find love
I will possess your heart

Repetition in the chorus edited for brevity.

I instantly disbelieve everything claimed there. It smacks of post-horse-hockey.

Not old, but I can't believe that Steal My Girl by One Direction is considered anything other than a weird song about a guy being super possessive over his girlfriend

Quote
Everybody wanna steal my girl
Everybody wanna take her heart away
Couple billion in the whole wide world
Find another one 'cause she belongs to me

No mate, she belongs to herself and if she wants to be "stolen" that's her choice
