Still deserves a WTF, because that shit is creepy as F.   There's something wrong if even one farmer did.

I'm going to guess that maybe kids dared each other to do it. I doubt that any farmer did.
Having known a couple of farmers, I'm pretty sure that at least a few of them did it as a joke. Like sending the new guy out to pick up some doughnut holes.

Off-topic, but we used to get doughnut holes. Basically, little pastries made exactly like doughnuts but spherical and about the side of the hole in the middle of a doughnut. They really are a thing, or were when I was a kid. I have not eaten a doughnut since I worked at the homeless shelter where we got donated stale bakery goods. Not yet spoiled, but very disappointing to bite into. The doughnuts looked just like the fresh ones, but yuck! they put me off doughnuts forever.
I'm pretty sure you know what I mean. Hey, newbie! I need to grease these pipe elbows. Can you pop out to the hardware store and pick me up some elbow grease?

It's not every day that one gets to go back to l'escalier for some esprit.

Stupid name for a stupid product. If a doughnut is made properly, there is no piece take out of the middle.

That would be as silly as selling small pieces of cheese and calling them Swiss Cheese Holes  ::)

And yes, that's the point. What are sold as doughnut "holes" are actually small doughnuts that lack holes.

I used to make ceramic inserts for the casting of jet engine airfoils. After casting, the ceramics are leeched out. I used to tell people that we made the holes for the doughnuts.

He didn't list a little TM next to it, and I'm already here and going to scoop it! I'll just deep fry it and it'll be a hit in Wisconsin...
