New Song of Ice and Fire book in November (but)
« on: April 25, 2018, 07:42:13 PM »
I find this unfrakkin' belivable. It's been seven years since A Dance with Dragons and The Winds of Winter is still nowhere on the horizon. But GRRM has time to write this??>>>>  https://www.amazon.com/Untitled-Ballantine/dp/152479628X/ref=sr_1_7?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1524696195&sr=1-7&keywords=fire+and+blood+george+rr+martin A six hundred pages-plus volume ONE prequel??? I mean, c'mon. This is the kind of stuff he should be writing AFTER the main body is completed! How many years gap is there going to be before volume two of this?

I mean, wow. Just wow. The naked chutzpah of the man with his cash grab.

Well, let me amend things a bit. Okay, "Cash grab" may be a little overboard and harsh. I'm sure Winds of Winter would sell better than this if it were ever published.

However, I think this prequel is pretty damning evidence that Martin is bloody well BLOCKED on the main story. He probably has a definite ending in mind, but I believe the story has  grown out of hand and he has no idea of how to get from Dance with Dragons to that ending.   Many criticize the HBO show for having become pretty much standard fantasy fare since going beyond the books. And there very well may be some truth to that. But at least Benioff and Weiss are giving us a resolution to plot lines that have been going on since 1995 when the first book was published. I don't think Martin will ever do so.

I really can't see myself buying the new books once the HBO show wraps things up, MAYBE in paperback, but definitely not in hardcover.

Saw this with a bunch of twitter responses.  Best I remember...

An entire TV adaption will have gone from start to finish before that book comes out.

Martin very much strikes me as a major procrastinator.  I don't know if I'd call this book a cash grab, but it reads very much like a distraction; same with the World of Fire and Ice book he put out a while ago.

He's timing the completion of the series to the point that real world Global Warming will be accepted and fordoomed, synching with the absurdly long seasonal variation in Westeros.
