Is he a real artist or is this some kind of elaborate reality tv show? I haven't followed the hip-hop scene for a few years but it seems like nobody could have predicted this...

Just cos he's rapping about some retrograde shit you'd rather not hear doesn't mean he ain't real hip-hop...
What was unpredictable about this guy?
From the half hour I put into listening to him speak, he seems like another young, inarticulate, flash in the pan. His name is 69.
He'll be gone like Soulja Boy soon... Charlemagne is most likely right: no lasting power.

I knew the dude sounded familiar.  Local story from earlier this year.

There are a few differences here:

1) the internet based “troll” culture being brought into reality

2) the use of anime and manga in hip hop and even Adventure Time “Billy”

3) the use of horror movie influences

4) a white person of Mexican heritage rapping with an almost exclusive black group and audience

5) a fashion first, sound second, lyrics last approach

6) the sudden rise and multiple New York connections (he just posted a pictures with Tommy Hilfiger) makes me think he is a manufactured artist

7) sex crime is unusual but not unheard of (no worse than R Kelly)

There are a few differences here:

Differences to what? Normal rappers? The way it's supposed to be done?
I still dunno what you're tryina say... that he's unique and new and his rise to fame needs some explanation beyond popular music trends? Not IMO

1) the internet based “troll” culture being brought into reality
Yeah, he sucks and is a laughable asshole to me. None if this makes him unique

2) the use of anime and manga in hip hop and even Adventure Time “Billy”
Wu Tang used the whole kung-fu aesthetic for a while... anyway rappers can reference what they want. I'm sure its been done before

3) the use of horror movie influences
You mean the jigsaw necklace? Again rappers can reference what they want.

4) a white person of Mexican heritage rapping with an almost exclusive black group and audience
I guess that's a little interesting. Plenty of Mexican rappers tho.

5) a fashion first, sound second, lyrics last approach
GUcci Gang Gucci Gang Gucci Gang Gucci Gang...

6) the sudden rise and multiple New York connections (he just posted a pictures with Tommy Hilfiger) makes me think he is a manufactured artist
I dunno... he was born in NYC... is it odd that he would have connections there? And anyway, whatever else he is, he is hot right now. Makes sense that celebs would want to be seen with him.

7) sex crime is unusual but not unheard of (no worse than R Kelly)
Indeed.

Guess it is just me getting old. I was brought up listening to wu tang, so I never saw it as different from the mainstream of the genre and I guess teenagers see Takeshi the same way. I mean ODB wasn’t a great role model.

This interview with Fat Joe Coca Vision explains his story a bit better - the Charlemagne interview was a bit too confrontational.

I'm starting to actually think he might stick around and be very successful.
