Yammi

Cannot hear Laurel at all.
While the blue dress thing was something I could see either way, this one has me perplexed. It's going around my workplace now. Seems like an almost even split with a slight edge to Yanni.
People who hear laurel cannot hear the "Y" at the end of Yanni at all. To me it is as clear as a bell.

Sure to be discussed tonight for this weeks podcast.

I hear Laurel (lorrel) over and over again, and unless something else is being said on a different frequency, I can't begin to hear Yanni.

Weird. Unless a lot of people are trying to mess with me or there's some sort technological trickery going on.

From what I gather it is pretty much a test of what frequency responses you are more sensitive to.

If you change the equalization for more or less bass response (or low /high bypass filter) you will be able to hear the other one.

I hear laurel. I think you are correct. I'm thinking the older you are the more you will hear laurel.

And I hear yanni, no ifs, ands, buts or Laurels.

Should have started this thread with a survey.

I only heard Yanny during the part where he applied distortion.

Your speakers or headphones probably play a part as well. People listening on tinny cellphone sound are probably more likely to hear Yanny.

Yes, this page needs a poll (three options: "Yanny", "Laurel", "I can hear either/both"). I came here just to vote because my "workplace" is just my home and my whole family hears Laurel.

I did clearly hear Yanny the first time I came across it, but since then I only ever hear Laurel, even using the same device and even listening to the altered versions where they change the pitch and stuff.

Poll added.

I wonder if I also has something to do with the tone of your voice, that makes you predisposed to what you hear, or expect to hear. in that if your voice is a lower register you are then likely to  interpret the sounds as a higher register and hear "laurrel." I have a lower voice and I heard laurrel the first time I heard it, after adjusting I could hear yanni (more like yammy) and now if I turn it on, it could be either one i hear.

I heard this on TV and all I could hear was Yanni.

I click on the link above and all I can hear is Laurel. So I guess the quality difference between my TV speakers and my iMac speaker makes a huge difference.

I guess I will choose both above in the poll.

Edit: I thought that would be an option.  ???

Yanni, or more like Yauni.

To me, the start is an unmistakable y-sound, not l-sound.

Is this a weird quirk someone found or is it designed to be weird?
