Adult Animation on Netflix
« on: August 31, 2018, 01:47:31 PM »
They've been doing well in the "humour animation for adults" genre lately over at Netflix.

I watched and loved both Final Space and Disenchanted.

Final Space - SF comedy about a convict on a prison ship, and the end of the world

Disenchanted - Fantasy comedy about a non-traditional princess and her disfunctional family.

I'm really disenchanted with Disenchanted. It just kind of Lies there for most of the show. Plus the characters are extremely inconsistent and that makes for a weak show, especially giving today's demands from viewers. But my girls love it so I probably will end up watching the whole series I'm about halfway through right now.

Was Final space and Netflix show? I thought I watched it on TNT first.

I watched Bojack Horseman over the summer and really liked it.

Yeah BH and Big Mouth are much better examples (in my opinion) of what Netflix can do with adult animation.

I enjoyed Disenchanted. It wasn't LOL funny most of the time, but there were a lot of fun moments and I liked the characters. I thought they developed nicely, too.

I tried to watch Final Space three times. The first time I didn't make it past UltraZapBrannagan or whatever his uberirritating face is called. The second we got to meet other less obnoxious characters quickly enough that I was able to stick with it for most of an episode. I watched two more because of the time warpage stuff. I like the bad guy too. I lost interest again pretty quickly though. Meh.

So just from looking at stills, Ultra Zapp is the main character of Final Space?

I've watched a few episodes of Disenchanted. I was hoping that

(click to show/hide)

But I like having a different setting, and that it so far has been a continuous story.

I enjoyed final space.  It had a lot of problems though and was a slow burn, but what got me through it was starting to really love the main characters.

I finished watching it tonight. I'm glad there will be another season, because so many questinos.* As Gary toned it down a bit I liked it more and more.

I’ve been watching Disenchanted.  I agree with 2397 in spoiler above. Also, I keep getting pulled out of it by the fact that Bean has the voice of Emily from Bojack Horseman.

"Big Mouth" absolutely killed me for season 1. The first few times I saw it I was laughing so hard I almost gagged.

The second season was not quite as funny but it certainly hit home for me in some ways with regard to my middle school experience as an "early bloomer".

Now I'm stuck waiting a year for the next season.

I did watch "Disenchanted". Not a fan. I did finish it but it was super meh.
