Do you eat raisins, on purpose?
« on: September 26, 2018, 02:27:32 PM »
This article showed up in feedly and it reminded me that a group of friends have talked about this kind of extensively and none of us like raisins. None of us like them or know anyone irl that eats them on purpose. While I'm not a millennial, most of my friend are but am not sure its a generational thing? What do you think? If you can only pick one snack at an imaginary store that has everything, how far down on the list is raisin? Would anyone have it in there top 100?

I put raisins on porridge (rice), prefer buns with raisins to plain buns, and raisins and nuts to just nuts. My spouse likes chocolate-covered raisins. I'll opt for something else, but I think it's better than plain chocolate.

So raisins by themselves, no. But I wouldn't want just a spoon of sugar or butter, either.

I don’t buy raisins or add them to food myself, but I’ll eat them in granola or cookies and such.  I prefer craisins, though, which I like to have on salads.

CarbShark has a stash of them hidden under a false bottom of a desk drawer.

How dare they screw up a perfectly good bread pudding with that crap.

Ill eat just about any dried fruit, I even like craisins and dried cherries but for some reason I cant stand raisins, sultanas, currants or prunes

I recall as a kid getting one of those wee boxes of Sunmaid raisins as a snack. I don't think I have really gone out of my way to eat raisins on their own since.

However, nowadays raisins are just another dried fruit to me, so they are something I will consume (my wife buys a about a pound a month), but I will mix them with peanuts, walnuts, almonds dried cranberries and dried apricot and some M&Ms for a trail mix.

Just last night I ate a small bowl of what was 2/3 raisins and 1/3 peanuts.

I like chocolate covered ones. What's the difference between a raisin and a sultana anyway?

They also call them golden raisins which are made from sultana grapes. I do like the grapes.

I buy them occasionally. I do enjoy them and they don't feel completely decadent, but they're sweet.

My girlfriend though did ask me how old I was when I bought them. Then asked if I required an afternoon nap in the aisle at work too...

Ha, yeah, I associate them with childhood too. I don't mind them in other things, but I don't think I've ever just went out and bought myself a big ol' box of Sun-Maids.
