Silphium is another Mediteranean herb that only existed for about 100 years. The ancient Greeks loved it and it was considered worth its weight in Gold. They could not, for the life of them, figure out how to cultivate it and it only grew on a thin strip of land in a very small area. They loved it so much that they put it on their coins. It was considered the womans first contraceptive as a spermicide. It also wildly increased arousal and sexual pleasure and even the seeds were in the shape of little hearts.
