CBD oil and anxiety?
« on: January 16, 2019, 11:55:32 AM »
My google-fu is not great. My state does not have legal marijuana, but has non-THC cannabis oil. Does anyone know of any studies that address its efficacy for anxiety? All I’m finding online are anecdotes and conjecture. I’m a fan of regular FDA anxiety meds; my friend is considering CBD oil.

Here's a thing I found on the first page of results, after Googling "cbd" "oil" "anxiety" "research" without the quotes.

Did a quick search on pubmed using, "cannabidiol anxiety."  There's recent studies suggesting benefit to anxiety, PTSD and the like.  But it's all fairly preliminary so further research is needed.  Controlled clinical trials will be needed to answers questions about dosing, long-term efficacy and the like.

At a minimum, looks promising.  Personally, I'm optimistic.

Isn't CBD (cannabidiol) the compound responsible for the quality that some stoners describe as "kind bud"?

CBD does not get you high, Kind bud was an indica/sativa hybrid but really just a name that only meant a higher quality product.

I cant speak for anxiety but my mother takes CBD oil with a small amount of THC during the day and an pure indica at night which have eliminated her need for Morphine when dealing with extreme back pain. She prefers the CBD because it does not get her high.

The low strength stuff you get in the Vape stores and gas stations is not even close to the same stuff they sell at dispensarys so if that is all your state has it mite be better to look elsewhere.

This is my understanding of the current situation.  Looks promising and has some plausibility.  I'd say try it, even if it doesn't work, I'd expect anxiety to be susceptible to the placebo effect if nothing else and CBD doesn't seem to have much in the way of negative side effects.

I know CBD doesn't "get you high," in the sense that it is not the source of marijuana's psychedelic properties. But it does have sedative hypnotic effects.

Nowadays, nearly all the marijuana on the market (with the possible exception of wild "ditch weed") is some form of indica/sativa hybrid.

But back in the 1980s and 90s when I used to smoke, the term "kind bud" had a more specific meaning than just higher quality product. Calling a particular strain "kind bud" meant that it imparted a mellower, calming kind of high as opposed to the harsh THC buzz that makes some people anxious and paranoid.

More recently, a friend of mine who lives in California and buys his marijuana from dispensaries has told me that CBD is the active compound responsible for the relaxing effects of "kind bud."
