Odd movie ideas?
« on: July 10, 2019, 08:54:57 PM »
I guess the title says it all.

I've been slightly addicted to Wildlife SOS this past week, and I realized today that someone really needs to make a movie about emaciated humans being taken in by a benevolent aliens to be nursed back to health and released into the wild. I think it would make a fine comedy and/or drama.

Although it might just be the beer talking.

If Twilight Zone didn't do it, Black mirror should.

A herd of elephants is imported to Texas as food animals. It pretty much writes itself.

I wrote a long description then realized it was The Butterfly Effect with some variations on how the time-jumping happens and shot from a first person POV.

Odd, but not original.

Hippos are better because its based on a thing that almost happened.

A good writer could probably make a pretty good comedy out of the actual events.

Another one based on history, a sort of headless horsemen of the American South West about the Camel that escaped with its rider.  The rider later died and based on sightings, the corpse remained attached for months.

The cavalry tried camels back then. Not much luck.

I don't believe a camel would tolerate a corpse on its back long. And a corpse would fall apart before "months".

I was present when a horde of stoned camels attacked the United States Navy.

With hippos you could make it into a kind of Jurassic Park parody!

There's already a book they could adapt with this premise (I haven't read it): https://www.amazon.com/River-Teeth-Sarah-Gailey/dp/0765395231

"A Finalist for the 2017 Nebula Award for Best Novella

Sarah Gailey's wildfire debut River of Teeth is a rollicking alternate history adventure that Charlie Jane Anders calls "preposterously fun."

In the early 20th Century, the United States government concocted a plan to import hippopotamuses into the marshlands of Louisiana to be bred and slaughtered as an alternative meat source. This is true.

Other true things about hippos: they are savage, they are fast, and their jaws can snap a man in two.

This was a terrible plan.

Contained within this volume is an 1890s America that might have been: a bayou overrun by feral hippos and mercenary hippo wranglers from around the globe. It is the story of Winslow Houndstooth and his crew. It is the story of their fortunes. It is the story of his revenge"

Well, that's kind of the point.

I'm not sure what it would do about if if said corpse was strapped on.  Still, there were alleged sightings of said camel with a corpse.  I don't think anyone can say for sure whether it was actually a US cavalry camel along with its dead rider but still, it would make for an odd movie.  A weird west tale of zombies or something.

That would at least be a good, odd scene in a war comedy.

Several years ago I watched far too many movies from American International Pictures --the company owned or run by Roger Corman.

My idea was to mix a couple of the main genres and character types from his main type of movies:
The Biker movie (Hell's angels on Wheels, etc)
The Hippie exploitation movie (like the Trip or Gassss)
The Beach party movie (Frankie and Annette
the '60s monster movie

I forget my exact plan, but it would largely start with the Beach Party deal, but instead of the cartoony biker gang (Erich Von Zipper), you'd have the sleazy Fonda types. Somehow the Hippies would find their way in (nudity and orgy scene), everyone doses on LSD while the monster--who has been killing people throughout, finally is discovered, and the only way to kill it is with a whole lot of LSD. Or something.

I haven't fleshed it out, I think to do that would mean binging on about 10 hours worth of AIP movies while tripping out.
