What are the bad movies you just can't get enough of?
« on: August 08, 2019, 10:34:00 PM »
I am a big fan of ghodawful cinema.  While others like to sit through multiple showings of Bruce Willis in The Fifth Element, I would rather watch Bruce Willis in Hudson Hawk over and over again.  I will skip past a showing of Roadhouse if Brainsmasher-A Love Story is available, and I will ignore Star Wars if I have a chance to see Space Truckers or Ice Pirates.  On the day Megaforce is available On Demand I will throw one hell of a party.
So, what are the B(C, D) movies you can't get enough of?   ;D

If I enjoy a movie enough to want to watch it, I consider it a good movie, even if it's stupid and lacks production values. I recently mentioned Tank Girl in the other movie thread. It is one of the stupidest movies I've ever seen. And it was wonderful. It is a great movie in spite of being stupid.

One of my favorite movies is The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra. The makers set out to make a grade B movie, but what they ended up making was brilliant.

So I don't watch gawdawful movies. I watch good movies that are sometimes unconventional. I don't think I've seen any of the movies you mention as ghodawful.

Hawk the Slayer (1980 or so)

Fantasy schlock from the late disco era, featuring Jack Palance chewing the scenery in a particular Jack Palancy sort of way, a cameo by a surprisingly svelte Andy Dalziel, a giant that's all of 6'2", an unshaven elf, and a "Tolkien does Disco" soundtrack that's actually quite terrific.  Did I mention the fully-automatic crossbow or was that in another film?

It ought to be awful, but for some reason I rather enjoyed it.  It helps to have low expectations.

Earth Girls Are Easy
What a weird and wonderful movie.
I disavow anyone in the movement involved in any illegal, unethical, sexist, or racist behavior. However, I don't have the energy or time to investigate each person and case, and a lack of individual disavowals for each incident should not be construed as condoning such behavior.

You're hoping that he's not talking about the remakes!

I can second this recommendation, though it has been literally decades since I last saw it.

The first one is hardly a bad movie.  I haven't seen the other two.

I do like both Ice Pirates and Tank Girl.

The original tremors was a good movie so does not deserve placement in this thread.

As a rule Paul Verhoven makes bad movies then claims they were satire; Total Recal, Starship Troopers, Show Girls, and Basic Instinct were all bad movies.

But, he does merit mention on this list.  Flesh and Blood is an absurd medieval sword and.....other stuff semi-fantasy.

Also with Ruger Hauer, Blood of Heroes.  One of the few enjoyable post-mad max post-apocalypse action thrillers.

Battle Field Earth was not nearly as bad as folks thought.

Zardoz is mesmerizing, if only for Connery in a red bikini thing.
