+1 on calling it peanut butter and jelly regardless of it actually being Jam or preserves.

It is entirely possible that I did the same as a kid. I have no idea when I learned the difference among the preserves and started to use the names with some precision.

I have long since devolved to initials only, but I still *think* jelly when I say J.

As a person with two names that start with J, I feel the need to firmly state that I will NOT respond well to being called Jelly. I had a dog named Jelly at one point, but the only characteristic he shared with jelly was continuous quivering with nervous energy - jealousy, mostly. We ended up calling him JJ, for Jealous Jelly. Still not to be confused with Brilligtove's real name. :) I do respond to JJ IRL (a very small set of people call me that).

...How the heck did we get to here from 'coke'?

:)

Don't know, but am considering inventing a cola flavored gelatin (jello) or perhaps a cola jelly.

I love this thread so much that Pee-wee Herman would tell me to marry it.  :roflolmao:

I live in eastern Pennsylvania, where it's soda.  I grew up in southern West Virginia, where it's pop.  Somehow I ended up with "coke" as my generic.  Sometimes co-cola.  And sometimes sody-pop.

Growing up in Buffalo and summering in Ontario, we called it pop. Now I call it "sodie pop" just for kicks. Some of the old-timers called it that. For the purposes of being assorted in the poll, I'll go with pop.
