Goat Simulator (http://store.steampowered.com/app/265930/) is 75% for the next 24 hours.
It's the most pointless yet fun game ever, totally worth the price if you just want some silly relaxing fun.

Dammit Ambious, I'm now frustrated on multiple levels thanks to you.

I bought HOMM3 because I fondly remembered the second one.  I started playing it and rediscovered how terrible I am at turn based strategy games.  I realize the reason I liked HOMM2 so much was that I played the same map literally hundreds of times, so I knew exactly how to budget resources and which order to attack enemies.

Nostalgic to play something I was good at, I stuck in my old HOMM2 disc only to discover the installer refuses to open on Windows 8, even in compatibility mode.

This then reminded me how much stuff I had on my old laptop that I neglected to backup before it went kaput.

Thanks a lot Steam Sales, you've ruined my weekend.   >:D

Here's a good one! (http://store.steampowered.com/sale/sale_deepsilverweekend2015/)
There's a "Deep Silver" (a developer) sale until Oct. 19, which includes the ENTIRE Saints Row franchise!
You can get the ENTIRE franchise for 16.99 US$! (http://store.steampowered.com/sub/80341/)
Saints Row, if you haven't played it, is a parody of sandbox games like GTA and its likes, and it's insane.
Now I've only played Saints Row IV and Saints Row: Gat out of Hell, but I can tell you it's insanely funny and worth every sheqel.

Grey Goo $19.99 down from $49.99 and free to play for the weekend.

I have been waiting for this one to come down in price and I probably should have tried it first but spontaneously hit the purchase button instead. It sure looks cool and I love older style RTS games

http://www.gog.com/ has a ridiculous sale right now. The Witcher 3 is $30, plus there are tons of amazing classics for stupidly low prices. Everything on GoG is DRM-free and patched to run properly on modern systems. I just picked up Battlespire, Redguard, and Morrowind for a grand total of $11 (edit: And I got Arena and Daggerfall as a bonus without even realizing it!). Time to binge on the early glory days of The Elder Scrolls.

On the other hand, I did find a few interesting games on the GOG sale, and ended up with a free code for System Shock 2.
I know I probably wont really be able to enjoy a game of that age, even though its supposed to be a classic... so, if anyone wants it Ill pm the code to the first person to raise their hand.

On a related note, don't buy things on Steam right now. Shit's fucked up (https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/3y7r0b/do_not_login_to_any_steam_websites/).

Heard bad things about the new Carmageddon?  I had too, but heard that it is better since patched.
I've only gotten a few minutes into it yet.  I gotta turn the video settings way down.
I bought this since it was on sale and for another reason to build a sweet new gaming rig.
But I can think of about 2000 reasons not to build it right now.

I really liked them both. They added new locations, NPCs, items, etc. that are a little different than the standard Skyrim stuff. I definitely consider Skyrim incomplete without them.

Oh, one other thing. If I understand you correctly, you have the base game but not the expansions. Buying the expansions would be silly. They're €5 each, whereas the Legendary Edition that contains them both (plus Hearthfire) is €7.50.

In good ol 'Merica, the Legendary Edition is the same cost as the two expansions.  I guess I'll get it even though I don't care about Hearthfire.

Ok so it's Activision sales weekend (http://store.steampowered.com/sale/activisionweekend/)!

Lots of interesting titles, but what caught my eye is the Space Quest Collection (http://store.steampowered.com/app/10110/)!!!!

I used to own ALL the Space Quest titles, and was bummed as heck when they cancelled 7.
4 & 6 are some of the funniest games I've ever played, and they're the spiritual ancestors of Futurama, as far as I'm concerned.

I played a bit of it, but it didn't click with me. Way too much emphasis on stupid little QTE sequences and other button prompts. In the old games, you'd jump up to a ledge. In the reboot, you'd [press E to climb ledge].

I'm gonna make the reddest redneck sister fuckinest dipshit asshole character I can.
Maybe I can even put him in a Trump shirt.

It should go without saying that the Steam Winter Sale is now underway.

I haven't spotted anything crazy cheap yet, but lots of stuff from the last two years is 50-66% off.

I'm not a big gamer at all, but I've been repeatedly told over the years that I ought to play Portal.  I know it's 9 years old, but is it still worth playing if one never has?

For context, I think the last game I really personally played was Civilization III.

you ought to play portal and portal 2 both still relevant and 80% off, $1.99 and $3.99

Completing the advanced/least portals challenges in the original and the "Cave Johnson Levels" of Portal 2 are some of the most intellectually satisfying moments of my 25 years of gaming.

(although nothing has ever topped beating Lemmings at 9 years old)

Portal 1 & 2 are some of the best games I've played.

The gameplay is fantastic, and it would be worth it just for GLaDOS (in both) & Wheatley's (in P2) dialogue.

(click to show/hide)

I need to replay both of them some day.

If you liked Civ III:

Civilization IV: $4.99
Civilization V: $7.49
Civilization VI: $53.99

Civ V fell flat for me - a lot of things were changed to fix some fundamental problems in the game, like that late game sprawl of cities that made it such a drag to wrap things up. The solutions were good ideas, but the balance was off.

Civ VI takes these changes and makes them work. Civ V never really flowed for me - Civ VI has that same addictive omg is it TEN A.M ALREADY aspect.

If you don't want to spend $50 on a game I'd get IV, skip V and wait for VI to come down in price. IV is a solid game and was tied with Alpha Centauri as my favorite in the series. Civ VI is easily the best now.

The Saboteur is $6.50 on GoG right now: https://www.gog.com/game/saboteur

A fantastic blend of GTA, Assassin's Creed, and Hitman set in Nazi-occupied Paris. One of the best games ever made.

The Stanley Parable is $3 until Monday.  This game is absolutely not worth the full price, but absolutely worth the discounted cost.

The first 30 minutes or so are rather lame, but the next two hours were fantastic.  Some truly laugh out loud moments.  DO NOT read any walkthroughs until you're ready to throw a chair at your screen, or the whole game is ruined.

Played through most of the tutorials of Offworld Trading Company last night. I did not expect to like it this much - it's an RTS focused on economic competition; basically lawless laissez faire capitalism in space. The main guy behind it seems to be the lead designer for Civilization IV.

Normally $39.99 it's on sale for $13.59 until the sale ends tomorrow.

http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/street-fighter-v-free-pc-trial/

Quote
Capcom announced that its one-on-one fighting game Street Fighter V will be free to play on Steam next week, offering PC players a glimpse of new features and balance tweaks arriving in the months ahead.

The free trial will also grant access to all previously released DLC characters, making it easier for Street Fighter fans to pick a favorite among the game’s starring cast.

I dont' like fighting games as much on a PC, they seem better fitted for consoles, but since its free will give it a try.

Has anyone ever played Metro Redux franchise (http://store.steampowered.com/sale/metro/)?

It is on sale as a bundle, two games for only $6.00; I'm not huge of FPS, but this is a pretty damn good deal.  Curious if it might be worth picking up.

It's not entirely FPS. It's more first person rpg with a lot of stealth elements. I enjoyed it enough to buy the various Metro games on several platforms. A lot of crossover with the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. team.

Anyone have recommendations of stuff to pick up over the winter sale?  My backlog of games is rather large so I don't feel an obligation to buy anything, but I do have a $20 gift card to blow.

You know, I got 7 Billion humans for 20%. I absolutely forgot to mention it here, though it is still 20% off.

It's a Programming language puzzle. I started the game, and am loving it all the while. It is quite challenging at parts. And there are challenges in each puzzle that are really hard. I started the game challenging myself to not continue until I have completed all the challenges in each puzzle without looking up the answers on the internet.

I highly recommend this game even at full price for anyone who love programming.

Jurassic World Evolution is 75% off down to $13.74.

Unlike the movie the game is pretty decent. I like Frontier Developments Planet Coaster better than any other amusement park builder so I thought I would give this a try and have been glued to it for several days.  To me it would be worth full price but 75% off is a steal.

Not on Steam (though who knows, I haven't checked), but Ubisoft is giving away AC:Unity for free (https://register.ubisoft.com/acu-notredame-giveaway/en-GB) until 25 April. (you need a Uplay account)

It is not the best game ever (that is obviously Dwarf Fortress), but hey, it's free.

Not the best Assassin's Creed game, but it is still a great game, and as it's free, why wouldn't you get it  8)

It's a great initiative by Ubisoft after the devastation of Notre Dame Cathedral, which BTW you can explore in the game (inside and out), and climb to the top of the, now destroyed, spire.
