Title: mobile games
Post by: moj on March 15, 2017, 01:41:29 PM
I know a lot of hard core gamers look down upon the mobile game but they have really come a long way. With people spending more time on phones and tablets as well as mobile devices becoming more and more powerful it only makes sense that the quality of causal games goes up. I thought there was already a thread on this but may have been lost. Do you caus game, what are some of your favorites? Been on clash of the clans for awhile and also really enjoy clash royal. Just recently started eggs inc and really like it. It's the magic of compound interest with eggs. On a tablet would add fighting games injustice and mortal kombat.

*Casual

There's an overwhelming amount of shit out there, but there are some gems to be discovered.

Obviously:
Monument Valley
Threes (f*ck 2048)

Interesting concepts, more obscure:
The Sequence (thanks Belgarath!)
Reigns

Pleasant Toilet Time-Wasters:
Two Dots
Crossy Road
Kingdom Rush

My wife and I play Marvel Tsum Tsum together.  It's dumb but we have fun spending the time together.

ETA: Has pay-to-win options, but they don't actually go all that far toward helping you win, and we've played quite steadily for 5-ish months now without either of us spending a dime on it.  There is a bit of a collectible element to it (collecting all the various characters), and the payment options would help more with that than with the actual gameplay.

There's only one game worth mentioning and it's Clash Royale.  Yes, it is somewhat pay-to-win, but mostly it's not.  Matches fit perfectly into the "while I'm pooping" time limit, there's a great deal of variety and tactica and strategic depth of gameplay and it's got hooks to keep you wanting to keep coming back.

Square Enix has made small mobile puzzle games based on their hit console games that are quite fun if you are into turn-based puzzlers.

Hitman GO
Lara Croft GO
Deux Ex GO

I waste short intervals of time playing "Yar". (Othello for you old folks.) Kills a few minutes.

Good call, I really enjoyed Lara Croft go but have not tried the others, I'll check them out, thanks!

You guys actually pay for your games? I guess I'm a horrible person stuck with Candy Crush.
I am in Clash of Clans and sometimes enjoy Fallout Shelter but I get to max capacity and it gets boring.

All the games I play are free to play but to get upgrades faster you can pay. I sometimes do, if I get a gift card or an drunk and impatient but normally just wait to upgrade things without paying.

Weird, I started playing Boom beach again after deleting from all my devices for a few months. Its fun enough but not my fav. When I reinstalled on an ipad air tablet it automatically picked up from where I left off. On my Android phone however it would not. It wont let me sign into google play from in the game and when I try and link it from the ipad it says it's already been linked once and you only get one link ever. That seems absurd that you can only link a devices once, especially if they are the same two devices. Still kinda fun but weird. I like that they added hero's to it.

My go-to toilet game has been Triple Town for a number of years now, but I've recently started playing Noodles, by Lummox Labs. It's  a pretty standard pipe arrangement game, but it has hundreds of levels of varying difficulty, and as an added bonus some of the completed puzzles make great dungeon maps for my D&D games!

I feel like I should update that we're still going as strong as ever with this one.  Still fun.

Burrito Bison: Launcha Libre stimulates the reward centre of my brain in a pleasant way while I'm pooping.
