Title: FOCI - legit or pseudoscience?
Post by: tyulkanov on August 21, 2019, 01:41:55 AM
Hi!

As many others, I do have some problems with procrastination. Digital platforms probably know this from the profiling they do. So recently I was shown an ad of the product below.

It claims to monitor breath patterns associated with losing focus and to nudge you via a phone app to stay focused.

Do you have an opinion on whether the claims sound legit and the product's features are science-based?

Sounds like BS to me. Also sounds extremely annoying. I didn't see any names of the people behind this or their credentials. They cite an article on pubmed that, based on just reading the abstract, sounds to me like very shake grounds for a device that's supposed to actually do something.

I'll bet you'd get the same effect by having your phone vibrate at you once every few minutes to remind you to stay on track.
