Quote
Money can't buy back all your youth when you're old,
a friend when you're lonely, or a peace to your soul.
The wealthiest person is a pauper at times
compared to the man with a satisfied mind.

Porter Wagoner, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and Jeff Buckley sung 'em.
I like Buckley's version.
"Satisfied Mind"

A few  Elvis Costello gems:

"Now that your picture's in the paper being rhythmically admired..."

"He's got all the things you need and some that you will never
But you make him sound like frozen food; his love will last forever"

"Charged with insults and flattery
Her body moves with malice
Do you have to be so cruel to be callous?"

"Well I hope you live long now, I pray the lord your soul to keep
I think Ill be going before we fold our arms and start to weep
I never thought for a moment that human life could be so cheap
cos when they finally put you in the ground
Theyll stand there laughing and tramp the dirt down"

"You either shut up or get cut up;
They dont wanna hear about it.
Its only inches on the reel-to-reel.
And the radio is in the hands of such a lot of fools
Tryin to anaesthetise the way that you feel"

Sorry for the block of text but I had to post this.

It's from Portal and called The Kingdom.  It's about religion and the evolution of organisms and memes(I think).

It might be time to let this go, we're a long way from the ground below Embracing greed, excesses, bickerings, while we speak of so much grander things While cheating life we’ll cease to grow, while leaching death we’ll never know It’s but latent gains unrealized, that separate our simple lives It takes much more than words to say that I’m out of place It's inborn, it's innate, it's instinct, it's in line with the way We desire, procreate, self-suffice, and decay So accept, nay embrace, we'll adapt to be saved Can't deny we've a place in The Kingdom It might be time now, push to shove, we're a long way from the gates above While the soul regresses, flickering, every blade evolves and bourgeons wings We can elevate our feeble minds, but we're only more if we act in kind We revert to primal urges, ape animals caged It's inborn, it's innate, it's instinct, it's in line with the way We desire, procreate, self-suffice, and decay So accept, and embrace, we'll adapt to be saved Can't deny we've a place in The Kingdom It’s inborn, it’s inbred, it’s instinct, it’s innate It’s in line, it’s in-keeping, it’s how we relate, We belong, we behave, we began, we became... Remember the days of yore when peace would rule Remember the nights when love rang true Can you recall when understanding fueled … our lives I certainly can't, and nor can you If it breaks like waves on the shore If it strains like all forms before If it fails like all ‘neath the sun Then the beast is foul and nothing more My - how like the sheep we move, and the wolves who torture them for days Hold - hold on to this childish ruse, and the twain will never change their ways Lo, my how like the sheep we move, and the wolves who torture them for days Hold - hold on to this childish muse, and the twain will never change their ways Lo, my how like ourselves they move, and the wolves who torture them for days Hold - hold on to this childish ruse, and the two will never change their ways It's our nature, it unfastens We breed quarries and assassins We're the hunters and the preyed on We're the windfalls and the burdens That's just nature, it unfastens It breeds quarries and assassins There are haunters, and the preyed on Some are windfalls and some burdens When the blood clots eternally When motive one subsides When we rise above I’ll say you’re so right!! When the queer consoles us When reason feeds our lives Show me signs and I'll believe you Though fate's below us, they will know us Truth will show us through… here It might be time to let this go, we're a long way from the ground below Releasing greed, excesses, bickerings, may be our only path to grander things While cheating life we’ll never grow, while leaching death we’ll never know It takes much more than words to say – that I’m out of place here

P.S. my first post here!

How about anything from Leonard Cohen?

here's a random sample:
==================

Suzanne takes you down to her place near the river
You can hear the boats go by
You can spend the night beside her
And you know that she's half crazy
But that's why you want to be there
And she feeds you tea and oranges
That come all the way from China
And just when you mean to tell her
That you have no love to give her
Then she gets you on her wavelength
And she lets the river answer
That you've always been her lover
And you want to travel with her
And you want to travel blind
And you know that she will trust you
For you've touched her perfect body with your mind.
And Jesus was a sailor
When he walked upon the water
And he spent a long time watching
From his lonely wooden tower
And when he knew for certain
Only drowning men could see him
He said "All men will be sailors then
Until the sea shall free them"
But he himself was broken
Long before the sky would open
Forsaken, almost human
He sank beneath your wisdom like a stone
And you want to travel with him
And you want to travel blind
And you think maybe you'll trust him
For he's touched your perfect body with his mind.

Now Suzanne takes your hand
And she leads you to the river
She is wearing rags and feathers
From Salvation Army counters
And the sun pours down like honey
On our lady of the harbour
And she shows you where to look
Among the garbage and the flowers
There are heroes in the seaweed
There are children in the morning
They are leaning out for love
And they will lean that way forever
While Suzanne holds the mirror
And you want to travel with her
And you want to travel blind
And you know that you can trust her
For she's touched your perfect body with her mind.

Since I've been listening to Psychotic Waltz:

Successor
Quote
son of creation you've planted my seed
under your domination, a doer of deeds have you
life by your hand
breath by your need
I will add to your strenght
I will quicken your speed
you give me birth as a tool for your game
as you build me an arm, create me a brain
your will is my honor, error is my blame
son of creation give me a name

before you, you see a thoughtless machine
as you enter your data, build to your scheme
silent I wait, lifeless I seem
but a child is born with a mind and a dream
build to my body, add to my brain
yes, a thoughtless creation with eyes that are blind
but a will that is strong, and I'm not far behind
as I grow and I learn through the passage of time with you

now I've learned from you, all that you know
with all you discover, together we grow
I've opened my eyes, I try not to show
that to be your successor I've not far to go
now I'm the heart and the mind of your way
your utter dependence, the game that I play
the direction you're headed, the way it will stay
as I shine in the light of the day

stand in line
step forward now
this is your number
convenient you'll find
at my microchip altar you'll bow

now you're all mine
wait and arise to your call
fool ruling kings
blind leading the blinded
and I hold the fate of you all

now I have taken you under my hand
a slave by creation, a god by demand
a power you seem to misunderstand
has made pawns of your kings, they await my command
your mind and your body, the gift that you bring
a chorus of worship, the song that you sing
slave to a master, tool to a king
a perfect creation, an ultimate being

Nothing
Quote
not so long ago there was a time
the naive animal was a wiser thing
and these devils that we accept as reality
did not exist here before
nor do I think they were meant to be

they have enshrouded themselves
with the comforts of wealth
inside this temple of material things
which they cling to
all because the hand
was much easier to see than the spirit
and upon the educated discovery of this
they have made their decision
not only for themselves
but for everyone else as well

everything you've ever come to experience
to anyone else here has never been
and will never be

life does not exist
memory is nothing more than photographs
a looking glass to see just where you've been
not what you've been there for
realize your insignificance to the universe
and to infinity

you will have then cast away
the pride of all these things you held so dear
agony and pleasure are a suffering to one another here
the wisest is the fool who realizes he knows
nothing, nothing

turn your back on this misconception
that the body is the temple
it's just the tool of the soul
the brain is only the house of the mind
and soon you'll have to give back
everything you've borrowed for this lifetime
only then you'll find
you have spent all this time
struggling for the wrong things
and all of your works here have been nothing

everything is nothing

written in 2005...quite clearly about George Bush:

Once upon a time
there was a restless king in charge.
What could he contribute
to write some history?
Gold he had plenty of
but plenty could be more
so onwards he marched
on reasons quite obscure.

With a blindfold and sword,
come deliver us from evil.

Great savior of all,
so honest and brave.
Your land of the free
is the home of the knave.

Great song.  ;D

Epilogue Metalogue - Sharpen Your Mind Tools

[Man:]
Our evolving existence
Is the wording of our endless strife

[Matter:]
But what about my assistance?
Of granting you these questions of life

[Man:]
I'm built by you, but you live only through me
A paradox that I still escape

[Matter:]
But, it's by that clue that your thinking can be
The reader of my numerous shapes

So, sharpen your mind tools,
your grammar of logics refines
And sharpens your mind tools,
Cause the thinking of thinking evolves your thinking
Mind tools,
Reasoning dug forth from inner mines
With sharpened mind tools
Your awareness is kept from sinking,
Into sleep

[Man:]
But the principle of awareness stretches
In our nerves, longer than the ecavator

[Matter:]
I'm your sensible nerve that fetches
Your views. Your thoughts resonator

So, sharpen your mind tools,
your grammar of logics refines
And sharpens your mind tools,
Cause the thinking of thinking evolves your thinking
Mind tools,
Reasoning dug forth from inner mines
With sharpened mind tools
Your awareness is kept from sinking,
Into sleep

Jason Cruz writes some of my favorite lyrics:

Some say in the darkest places, love can grow
This solitary romance we'll never know
Well it's this coffin break I'm staging to the road that leads me back to you
Will be the miracle I gave up everything to only be with you
Can't seem to shake the loneliest curse of all
Eternity with just a memory
I've seen your picture a million times three sixes and a melody of
Singing vice and a varice in the chains you chose to be our dress for
My funeral for two a carnival in blue
Can't seem to shake the loneliest curse of all
Eternity spent chasin' what I shun
All is ghost in memory and poison in the sun
In the sun...na na na they bury us in the sand
na na na together hand in hand
I can't seem to shake the loneliest
Curse of all eternity spent chasing what i was
All is ghost in memory and poison in the sun

=======

There is a place I know through misery and stone
Under myriads neglected and cold
Where sadness blossoms overgrown

There's a shadow in the garden where we sit and wait alone

There is a grave beneath the shadow somber with neglect
No roses have been granted no prayer has been sent

There's a shadow in the garden where my love and I await
Silent as the day we left it all behind my little

Diver, we'll rise again
Diver, we'll live again
Diver, and the cities we once dreamed will open for us

And the ruins of another time another world
Will greet us on our way at the end of it all

There's a shadow in the garden where my love and I await
Silent as the day we left it all behind my little

Diver, we'll rise again
Diver, we'll live again
Diver, and the cities we once dreamed will open for us

Like a dream in darkness reaching out for you
Bone and dust in shrouded velvet me and you

To feel the sun against my back
You know I'd do it all again
You know I'd live it all again
You know I wouldn't change a thing
To walk out of this place and live

You know I'd do it all again
You know I'd do it all again
You know I'd do it all again
You know I'd do it all again

I wouldn't change a single thing
Just like a dream, we'll live again
We'll live again

I want somebody who sees the pointlessness
and still keeps their purpose in mind
I want somebody who has a tortured soul
some of the time
I want somebody who will either put out for me
or put me out of misery
or maybe just put it all to words
and make me say, you know
I never heard it put that way
make me say, what did you just say?
I want somebody who can hold my interest
hold it and never let it fall
someone who can flatten me with a kiss
that hits like a fist
or a sentence, that stops me like a brick wall
because if you hear me talking
listen to what I'm not saying
if you hear me playing guitar
listen to what I'm not playing
and don't ask me to put words
to all the spaces between notes
in fact if you have to ask, forget it
do and you'll regret it
I'm tired of being the interesting one
I'm tired of heving fun for two
just lay yourself on the line
and I might lay myself down by you
but don't sit behind your eyes
and wait for me to surprise you
I want somebody who can make me
scream until it's funny
give me a run for my money
I want someone who can
twist me up in knots
tell me, for the woman who has everything
what have you got?
I want someone who's not afraid of me
or anyone else
in other words I want someone
who's not afraid of themself

do you think I'm asking too much?

Gimme the things that drive me insane
Teenage women and free cocaine
I want some free cocaine
From my man who went to high school
Abel said to Cain
Momma was a groupie out on Donovan's brain for
Free cocaine, free cocaine
Pussy, carbohydrates, sometimes acid rain
I just want a sniff of your free cocaine
You know the best things in life are free
And if they're free why don't you give it to me
Free cocaine, free cocaine
I want the 31 flavors, 69 years
I'll take 13 vials worth, I don't care.

You really go past The Eagles' "Get Over It".

I turn on the tube and what do I see
A whole lotta people cryin' 'Don't blame me'
They point their crooked little fingers ar everybody else
Spend all their time feelin' sorry for themselves
Victim of this, victim of that
Your momma's too thin; your daddy's too fat

Get over it
Get over it
All this whinin' and cryin' and pitchin' a fit
Get over it, get over it

You say you haven't been the same since you had your little crash
But you might feel better if I gave you some cash
The more I think about it, Old Billy was right
Let's kill all the lawyers, kill 'em tonight
You don't want to work, you want to live like a king
But the big, bad world doesn't owe you a thing

Get over it
Get over it
If you don't want to play, then you might as well split
Get over it, Get over it

It's like going to confession every time I hear you speak
You're makin' the most of your losin' streak
Some call it sick, but I call it weak

You drag it around like a ball and chain
You wallow in the guilt; you wallow in the pain
You wave it like a flag, you wear it like a crown
Got your mind in the gutter, bringin' everybody down
Complain about the present and blame it on the past
I'd like to find your inner child and kick its little ass

Get over it
Get over it
All this bitchin' and moanin' and pitchin' a fit
Get over it, get over it

Get over it
Get over it
It's gotta stop sometime, so why don't you quit
Get over it, get over it

Based on a true story:

The Lonesome Death Of Hattie Carroll

William Zanzinger killed poor Hattie Carroll
With a cane that he twirled around his diamond ring finger
At a Baltimore hotel society gath'rin'.
And the cops were called in and his weapon took from him
As they rode him in custody down to the station
And booked William Zanzinger for first-degree murder.
But you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears,
Take the rag away from your face.
Now ain't the time for your tears.

William Zanzinger, who at twenty-four years
Owns a tobacco farm of six hundred acres
With rich wealthy parents who provide and protect him
And high office relations in the politics of Maryland,
Reacted to his deed with a shrug of his shoulders
And swear words and sneering, and his tongue it was snarling,
In a matter of minutes on bail was out walking.
But you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears,
Take the rag away from your face.
Now ain't the time for your tears.

Hattie Carroll was a maid of the kitchen.
She was fifty-one years old and gave birth to ten children
Who carried the dishes and took out the garbage
And never sat once at the head of the table
And didn't even talk to the people at the table
Who just cleaned up all the food from the table
And emptied the ashtrays on a whole other level,
Got killed by a blow, lay slain by a cane
That sailed through the air and came down through the room,
Doomed and determined to destroy all the gentle.
And she never done nothing to William Zanzinger.
But you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears,
Take the rag away from your face.
Now ain't the time for your tears.

In the courtroom of honor, the judge pounded his gavel
To show that all's equal and that the courts are on the level
And that the strings in the books ain't pulled and persuaded
And that even the nobles get properly handled
Once that the cops have chased after and caught 'em
And that the ladder of law has no top and no bottom,
Stared at the person who killed for no reason
Who just happened to be feelin' that way without warnin'.
And he spoke through his cloak, most deep and distinguished,
And handed out strongly, for penalty and repentance,
William Zanzinger with a six-month sentence.
Oh, but you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears,
Bury the rag deep in your face
For now's the time for your tears.

God I love that song. See ya and raise you

With God On Our Side

Oh my name it is nothin'
My age it means less
The country I come from
Is called the Midwest
I's taught and brought up there
The laws to abide
And that land that I live in
Has God on its side.

Oh the history books tell it
They tell it so well
The cavalries charged
The Indians fell
The cavalries charged
The Indians died
Oh the country was young
With God on its side.

Oh the Spanish-American
War had its day
And the Civil War too
Was soon laid away
And the names of the heroes
I's made to memorize
With guns in their hands
And God on their side.

Oh the First World War, boys
It closed out its fate
The reason for fighting
I never got straight
But I learned to accept it
Accept it with pride
For you don't count the dead
When God's on your side.

When the Second World War
Came to an end
We forgave the Germans
And we were friends
Though they murdered six million
In the ovens they fried
The Germans now too
Have God on their side.

I've learned to hate Russians
All through my whole life
If another war starts
It's them we must fight
To hate them and fear them
To run and to hide
And accept it all bravely
With God on my side.

But now we got weapons
Of the chemical dust
If fire them we're forced to
Then fire them we must
One push of the button
And a shot the world wide
And you never ask questions
When God's on your side.

In a many dark hour
I've been thinkin' about this
That Jesus Christ
Was betrayed by a kiss
But I can't think for you
You'll have to decide
Whether Judas Iscariot
Had God on his side.

So now as I'm leavin'
I'm weary as Hell
The confusion I'm feelin'
Ain't no tongue can tell
The words fill my head
And fall to the floor
If God's on our side
He'll stop the next war.

Hm, should I reply to this thread or bump seaotter's?  Maybe both?

GWAR is always great with the lyrics:

As we sit on our roofs
And cheer as your scuds fall like rain
Here at the ancient ziggaraunt Saddam is presiding there
Running around with a saxophone Where is the president, where?

And the Marx Brothers:

I don’t know what they have to say,
It makes no difference anyway --
Whatever it is, I’m against it!
No matter what it is or who commenced it,
I’m against it.

Your proposition may be good
But let’s have one thing understood --
Whatever it is, I’m against it!
And even when you’ve changed it or condensed it,
I’m against it.

I’m opposed to it --
On general principles I’m opposed to it!

From history to GWAR.  Hmm....ok.  I'll combine history with cannibalism:

A Tale They Won't Believe
We left Macquarie Harbour it was in the pouring rain
none of us quite sure if we would see England again
some fool muttered death or liberty
there was six of us together a jolly hungry crew
and as the days went by you know our hunger quickly grew
some fool muttered death or liberty

So that night we made fires out of twigs and out of bark
and our stomaches they were grumbling all through the night so dark
we were only trying to keep our selves alive
but when the sun came up next morning well the six had turned to five

And I said, right there’s another one, don’t you frown,
Chew the meat and hold it down, It’s a tale they won’t believe,
When I get down to Hobart town

All five of us were nervous and I'll tell you that’s a fact
bu you should have seen the bastard who was carrying the axe
He was a sick man he had murder in his heart

And then we reached the Franklin River, and it took two days to cross
we were wet and almost starvin’ and for food were at a loss
we were hungry men with murder on our minds.

So that night we made fires out of twigs and out of bark
and our stomachs they were rumbling all through the night so dark,
And they were making noises the deaf could not ignore
and when the sun came up next morning,
the five had turned to four!

And I said, right there’s another one, don’t you frown,
Chew the meat and hold it down, It’s a tale they won’t believe,
When I get down to Hobart town

Well the four of us kept on marching to a place called western teirs
A country full of tasty game but for us there was no cheer
we had no guns we were traveling without hope
but the axe it loomed so ominous, Gods hand was at play
a sick man is a type of game which can not run away
so stay easy, my good man your times at hand

So that night we made fires out of twigs and out of bark
and our stomachs they were grumbling all through the night so dark
I can't say I feel guilty, after all it wasn't me
but when the sun came up next morning the four had turned to three

And I said, right there’s another one, don’t you frown,
Chew the meat and hold it down, It’s a tale they won’t believe,
When I get down to Hobart town

well the three of us kept on moving but one was fading fast
he had been bitten by a snake and you could see he would not last
stay easy my poor man your time is at hand
and when he could march no longer, his time was here at last
we were far to weak to carry him subsistency it comes first
stay easy my good man your time is at hand

So that night we made fires out of twigs and out of bark
and our stomachs they were grumbling all through the night so dark
It was a messy job but it was one we had to do
but when the sun came up next morning the three had turned to two

And I said, right there’s another one, don’t you frown,
Chew the meat and hold it down, It’s a tale they won’t believe,
When I get down to Hobart town

Now he had been looking at me funny, sort of eyeing me for days,
And you would not need to be too bright to know that bastard’s ways:
He was a sick man, he had murder in his heart.
But even bastards have to rest, and even bastards have to sleep,
And when he was in the land of Nod straight over I did creep,
and the axe that he had wielded now was mine.

So that night, I made the fire, out of twigs and out of bark,
and my stomach it kept rumbling all through the night so dark.
I can’t say that I enjoyed it, and it wasn’t exactly fun,
but when the sun came up next morning, the two had turned to one!

And I said, right there’s another one, don’t you frown,
Chew the meat and hold it down, It’s a tale they won’t believe,
When I get down to Hobart town

Well now history is a pack of lies, as any fool can tell,
So when I got down to Hobart town I told my story well,
But do you think they would believe one word I said?
For they thought that I was covering for my mates still at large,
Said they’d be roaming in the bush so wild and free,
And back to old Macquarie Harbour they sent me

But I remember the fires made out of twigs and made of bark
and my stomachs it was grumbling all through the night so dark
And this young fool he just said to me it's liberty or death
and he looked so utterly tasty I just could not help it singing

And I said, right there’s another one, don’t you frown,
Chew the meat and hold it down, It’s a tale they won’t believe
When I get down to Hobart town

MY SWEET RELIEF

All the secret life designs
that everyone is privy to,
missed me by a thousand miles -
I didn't mean to insult you.
There's a singer singing
proud and strong
to nobody at all.
Even though she's clear and true -
"she's very talented, too" -
she isn't wearin' the right boots.

All force resigned.
I'll take what's mine.
Y'all believe what you all believe.
My sweet relief.

All the secret ways to be,
hidden in that wayward glancing.
I'm happy being here all alone
while everybody's going dancing.
Empty music - crowded hall.
Loaded gestures crawl.
I'd like to take you somewhere else
- but who's got time for that
when your busy kissing ass?

All force resigned, I'll take what's mine.
Y'all believe what you all believe
my sweet relief.
All force resigned, take all of mine.
Y'all believe what you all believe.
My sweet relief.

Hm, should I reply to this thread or bump seaotter's?  Maybe both?

GWAR is always great with the lyrics:

Ah, a Richmond VA band....

But to return to Dylan... from "Visions of Johanna" ... one of my favorite lines of all time:

Quote
The ghost of electricity
howls in the bones of her face

I have no idea what that means.

Another good one.  I'll just put a line in here and embed a video.  The lyrics are great, but without the delivery they're not as good.

His name appears in Freud's index

If you pursue revenge, dig many graves,
Be sure to add your name to the list that you've made

I heard little children were supposed to sleep tight,
That's why I got into the vodka one night.
My parents got frantic, didn't know what to do,
But I saw some crazy scenes before I came to
Now, do YOU think I was crazy?
I may have been only three but I was swinging!

"I sure could use a vacation
from this bullshit, three ring
circus sideshow of freaks
here in this hopeless fucking hole
we call LA, the only way to fix it
is to flush it all away"

"Fuck L Ron Hubbard and Fuck all his clones"

Not like you drove a spiteful spear into his side
Talk to Jesus Christ as if he knows the reasons why
He did it all for you"

-A Perfect Circle, Judith

“God is dead

if there is a hell
I'll see you there”

-Nine Inch Nails, Heresy

I second this...  maybe some tool - 46 & 2, NiN - sunspots

NiN - survivalism

I should have listened to her,
so hard to keep control.
We kept on eating but our
bloated bellies still not full.
She gave us all she had but
we went and took some more.
Can't seem to shut her legs our
mother nature is a whore.

I got my propaganda I got revisionism.
I got my violence in hi-def ultra-realism.
I'm a part of this great nation.
I got my fist I got my plan I got survivalism.

Hypnotic sound of siren
echoing through the street.
The cocking of the rifles,
the marching of the feet.
You see your world on fire,
don't try to act surprised.
We did just what you told us.
Lost our faith along the way and found ourselves believing your lies.

I got my propaganda I got revisionism.
I got my violence in hi-def ultra-realism.
I'm a part of this great nation.
I got my fist I got my plan I got survivalism.

All bruised and broken bleeding,
she asks to take my hand.
I turn just keep on walking.
But you'd do the same thing in the circumstance I'm sure you'll understand.

I got my propaganda I got revisionism.
I got my violence in hi-def ultra-realism.
I'm a part of this great nation.
I got my fist I got my plan I got survivalism.

"Late For The Sky" - Jackson Browne

The words had all been spoken
And somehow the feeling still wasn't right
And still we continued on through the night

Tracing our steps from the beginning
Until they vanished into the air
Trying to understand how our lives has led us there

Looking hard into your eyes
There was nobody I'd ever known
Such an empty surprise.....
to feel so alone

Now for me some words come easy
But I know that they don`t mean that much
Compared with the things that are said when lovers touch
You never knew what I loved in you
I don`t know what you loved in me
Maybe the picture of somebody you were hoping I might be

Awake again I can`t pretend
and I know I`m alone
And close to the end.....
of the feeling we`ve known

How long have I been sleeping
How long have I been drifting alone through the night
How long have I been dreaming I could make it right
If I closed my eyes and tried with all my might
To be the one you need

Awake again I can`t pretend and I know I`m alone
And close to the end.......
of the feeling we`ve known

How long have I been sleeping
How long have I been drifting alone through the night
How long have I been running for that morning flight
Through the whispered promises and the changing light
Of the bed where we both lie
Late for the sky

Sorta Country:

Well let's pack up the kids
and take a break, get away
leave the hustle and bustle
of living from day to day
and I know that the crime
in the city is getting worse

So I'm going on down to
the gun sale at the church

Well my lady's all set
to have us a real good time
Baby Johnny got fins
but he don't seem to mind
so the family’s all ready
to pray
at the holy perch

That's set up in the middle of
the gun sale at the church

Well we'll ask the lord to
forgive us for all our sins
and we'll look at the latest in
gold plated firing pins

Well my two main men are
Jesus and old John Birch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Birch_Society)

So I'm going on down to
the gun sale at the church

Well we'll ask the lord to
forgive us for all our sins
and we'll look at the latest in
gold plated firing pins

Well let's pack up the kids
and take a break, get away
leave the hustle and bustle
of living from day to day
and I know that the crime
in the city is getting worse

So I'm going on down to

Wish I had some peanuts

I am inside of history
It was hungrier than I thought

I started listening to these guys just because I liked a couple of the songs.  And then I learn they have a pretty strong anti-religion streak in them.    Hurt.

Hurt Flowers Lyrics:
The children will sing
A song in the streets
Sounds like the 23rd psalm
To music of 21 guns
The flowers are dead
In a vase by the bed
On the place where the old woman died
it's the same place she started her life
Papers will all say her name
And probably print the wrong date
The day that she died,
'Cause we're all gonna die

Cute little puppies and bunnies and birds
People who sing when they
don't know the words
You will die
'Cause we're all gonna die
it's just part of life
All men, women, children,
hermaphrodites too
Animals, aliens and certainly you
You will die
'Cause we're all gonna die
'Cause everyone dies

And all that was ever
And all that will be
Single celled creatures
And anything green
You will die
'Cause we're all gonna die
Start saying goodbye
From the moment you start up
this miserable life
You should know that it's
only a matter of time
'Till you die
'Cause we're all gonna die

Start saying goodbye
And the morons at labels who
think they know tunes
The army of lawyers that threaten to sue
The hookers that blow them
when I just want food
And the asshats that download
and never buy tunes
You should die
'Cause we're all gonna die

I can't wait 'till you die
All protestants, catholics
and orthadox jews
You dumb scientologists
And guys who bend spoons
And buddhists, sort of
And athiests too
All you wackjob believers
Nobody's immune
You will die
'Cause we're all gonna die

Kiss your ass goodbye
And sarcastic song writers
Guys with tattoos, drummers
and bassists and engineers too
And every last person that
sang in this room
They will die
'Cause we're all gonna die
We're all gonna die
'Cause we're all gonna die
We're all gonna die
And it's just a reminder of
something that's frequently known

Must have been one hell of a wedding. Live is really the only way to appreciate the Red Elvises.

They're still around, with some changes in personnel. I saw them last August at Musikfest in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and last fall in Arlington, Virginia. Both great shows. Musikfest is a great festival, if you're in eastern Pennsylvania in the first week of August. (It's still great if you're not there, but you'll appreciate it more that way.)

What God Wants, Part 2 - Roger Waters:

What God wants God gets God help us all
God wants dollars
God wants cents
God wants pounds shillings and pence
God wants guilders
God wants kroner
God wants Swiss francs
God wants French francs
Oui il veut des francs francais
God wants escudos
God wants pesetas
Don't send lira
God don't want small potatoes
God wants small towns
God wants pain
God wants clean up rock campaigns
God wants widows
God wants solution
God wants TV
God wants contributions
What God wants God gets God help us all
God wants silver
God wants gold
God wants his secret
Never to be told
God wants gigolos
God wants giraffes
God wants politics
God wants a good laugh
What God wants God gets God help us all
God wants friendship
God wants fame
God wants credit
God wants blame
God wants poverty
God wants wealth
God wants insurance
God wants to cover himself
What God wants God gets God help us all

Guaranteed - Eddie Vedder

On bended knee is no way to be free
Lifting up an empty cup, I ask silently
All my destinations will accept the one that's me
So I can breathe...

Circles they grow and they swallow people whole
Half their lives they say goodnight to wives they'll never know
A mind full of questions, and a teacher in my soul
And so it goes...

Don't come closer or I'll have to go
Holding me like gravity are places that pull
If ever there was someone to keep me at home
It would be you...

Everyone I come across, in cages they bought
They think of me and my wandering, but I'm never what they thought
I've got my indignation, but I'm pure in all my thoughts
I'm alive...

Wind in my hair, I feel part of everywhere
Underneath my being is a road that disappeared
Late at night I hear the trees, they're singing with the dead
Overhead...

Leave it to me as I find a way to be
Consider me a satellite, forever orbiting
I knew all the rules, but the rules did not know me
Guaranteed

Oh how do you do, young Willy McBride
Do you mind if I sit here down by your graveside
And rest for a while in the warm summer sun
I've been walking all day, and I'm nearly done
And I see by your gravestone you were only nineteen
When you joined the great falling in 1916
Well I hope you died quick
And I hope you died clean
Or Willy McBride, was is it slow and obscene

Did they beat the drums slowly
Did they play the fife lowly
Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down
Did the band play the last post and chorus
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

And did you leave a wife or a sweetheart behind
In some loyal heart is your memory enshrined
And though you died back in 1916
To that loyal heart you're forever nineteen
Or are you a stranger without even a name
Forever enshrined behind some old glass pane
In an old photograph torn, tattered, and stained
And faded to yellow in a brown leather frame

Did they beat the drums slowly
Did they play the fife lowly
Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down
Did the band play the last post and chorus
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

The sun shining down on these green fields of France
The warm wind blows gently and the red poppies dance
The trenches have vanished long under the plow
No gas, no barbed wire, no guns firing now
But here in this graveyard that's still no mans land
The countless white crosses in mute witness stand
To man's blind indifference to his fellow man
And a whole generation were butchered and damned

Did they beat the drums slowly
Did they play the fife lowly
Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down
Did the band play the last post and chorus
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

And I can't help but wonder oh Willy McBride
Do all those who lie here know why they died
Did you really believe them when they told you the cause
Did you really believe that this war would end wars
Well the suffering, the sorrow, the glory, the shame
The killing and dying it was all done in vain
Oh Willy McBride it all happened again
And again, and again, and again, and again

Did they beat the drums slowly
Did they play the fife lowly
Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down
Did the band play the last post and chorus
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

I like Cole porter
Just like I Oughta

 ....     ......     .....             ....                   .....

At words poetic, I'm so pathetic
That I always have found it best,
Instead of getting 'em off my chest,
To let 'em rest unexpressed,
I hate parading my serenading
As I'll probably miss a bar,
But if this ditty is not so pretty
At least it'll tell you
How great you are.

You're the top!
You're the Coliseum.
You're the top!
You're the Louver Museum.
You're a melody from a symphony by Strauss
You're a Bendel bonnet,
A Shakespeare's sonnet,
You're Mickey Mouse.
You're the Nile,
You're the Tower of Pisa,
You're the smile on the Mona Lisa
I'm a worthless check, a total wreck, a flop,
But if, baby, I'm the bottom you're the top!

Your words poetic are not pathetic.
On the other hand, babe, you shine,
And I can feel after every line
A thrill divine
Down my spine.
Now gifted humans like Vincent Youmans
Might think that your song is bad,
But I got a notion
I'll second the motion
And this is what I'm going to add;

You're the top!
You're Mahatma Gandhi.
You're the top!
You're Napoleon Brandy.
You're the purple light
Of a summer night in Spain,
You're the National Gallery
You're Garbo's salary,
You're cellophane.
You're sublime,
You're turkey dinner,
You're the time, the time of a Derby winner
I'm a toy balloon that’s fated soon to pop
But if, baby, I'm the bottom,
You're the top!

You're the top!
You're an arrow collar
You're the top!
You're a Coolidge dollar,
You're the nimble tread
Of the feet of Fred Astaire,
You're an O'Neill drama,

You're Whistler's mama!

You're camembert.

You're a rose,
You're Inferno's Dante,

You're the nose
On the great Durante.
I'm just in a way,
As the French would say, "de trop".
But if, baby, I'm the bottom,
You're the top!

You're the top!
You're a dance in Bali.
You're the top!
You're a hot tamale.
You're an angel, you,
Simply too, too, too diveen,
You're a Boticcelli,
You're Keats,
You're Shelly!

You're Ovaltine!
You're a boom,
You're the dam at Boulder,
You're the moon,
Over Mae West's shoulder,
I'm the nominee of the G.O.P.

Or GOP!

But if, baby, I'm the bottom,
You're the top!

You're the top!
You're a Waldorf salad.
You're the top!
You're a Berlin ballad.
You're the boats that glide
On the sleepy Zuider Zee,
You're an old Dutch master,

You're Lady Astor,
You're broccoli!
You're romance,
You're the steppes of Russia,
You're the pants, on a Roxy usher,
I'm a broken doll, a fol-de-rol, a blop,

But if, baby, I'm the bottom,
You're the top!

We're all going to hell -Bastard Fairies

All you Mormons who like cussing, you are going to hell
All you preachers who like fucking, you are going to hell
Little boys that choke the chicken, you are going to hell
It’s the nature of evolution, the dinosaurs went to hell

-CHORUS-
Hell hell hell it’s a wonderful place
It’s a place of fire and brimstone

All you Christian politicians, you are going to hell
Magic Jesus apparitions send you to hell
Buddhist monks without god you are going to hell
Those of you dissecting frogs, you are going to hell

CHORUS

(talking)
I need a beer
-Can opening-
Ha-ha that was pretty good
Ahh. Okay

All you Catholics wearing condoms, you are going to hell
All us fatties eating bonbons, we are going to hell
Unbaptized babies learn to limbo, purgatory is hell
And your religion is a gamble and you are going to hell

CHORUS

Check this shit out x 2
It’s gunna change your life x2

There once was a man who thought that if he ate all the pages in the bible he could kill most anything
In 1913 he died of a stroke when he tried to eat the book of kings
